when the audio mixer is open, you will see that the buffer on your status bar is always empty, so you may get stutter or playback stopped during transitions etc, especially in HD projects

the audio mixer open is worse then multiple realtime virus scans at the sane time :)
Even on a monster CPU system you have about 3 frames left of the buffer, not that great but often enough to play through a simple edit timeline.
This has been discused over & over on this forum, even more than 3D pip issue.

The audio mixer performance is by design. If the audio mixer used the buffer, you'd be applying delayed changes, which would be like singing along with an echo instead of the leader.

It is also in the manual IIRC. I think there have been many threads on this explaining why it works this way. If you need audio meters use the ctr + g dispay.

Im using a Sony HCR3 Camcorder as a deck - have Done 1000's of tapes this way with no issues--all of the sudden it stoped working on my main system - but worked no problem on my laptop---now it;s not working on the laptop system - tried changing to my z7 and even tried a new firewire cable---nadda---the playback is simply choppy (where it used to play smoothe) - i tried capturing in pp - and had no problems---so something is now causing a bottleneck in edius and i would love to know what!!!!

I'm capturing to canopus hq - seems to work the best in editing where-as m2p uses way to much resources and is Choppy!

How is your deck connected to your main system?

Firewire 400---on the main it is 6 pin to 4 - on the laptop it is 4 - lemme reiterate both systems worked fine----then something changed---i have not updated or added new software----windows might have been updated here and there ---so that might be the issue - but the laptop system worked PERFECTLY for like 6 months - now all of the sudden!!!! (windows xp pro)

So here is an oddity-i noticed that my batttery power on the laptop was only 43% - even though it was plugged in over nite---so i re-seated the battery--it then charged to 100% and wouldnt you know the damn thing is capturing perfectly again-------odd!
