  • MTS realtime Hardware requirements

I would like to buy a new computer that can support
Edius 5 MTS realtime (AVCHD) FULL HD files,
up to at least 4/5 video streams.

Can anyone help me with the hardware?

Ask George Dame. He is best around. But, I really wonder if you asking for the sun ... one stream of AVCHD is tough enough even for today's top grade processors - and you want 5 streams? I think you are better off encoding those AVCHD streams to HQ first.

OK... so let us go down to 3 streams....

Yep, i know i have to convert them first to HQ, but it's time consuming.

I wish i could just bring those files to Edius , and the rest is history.

Could you link me to George Dame?

Today - EDIUS 5.12 can't handle AVCHD yet ... you need to wait for EDIUS 5.5 to be released first ....

As for George Dame - he normally hangs around this board. Or you can do a search in the id section and do a private post to him.

Mmmm... 5.12 isn't ready for MTS yet?

I've read that Edius new products does support MTS realtime editing.

Why are you claming they can not? Is that because of the fact that 5.5
will be released with a new software capability that will handle MTS even
on Quad Processors with no trouble?

In the soon to be released EDIUS 5.5 indeed you will be able to do a few streams of AVCHD in real time. But all of this will depend on your system.

You didn't read my reply correctly. I said ... 5.12 can't handle AVCHD yet. You need 5.5 to do that. Sure - you can open AVCHD on 5.12 - but, try to playback just one stream - even on my system (see signature) - it will choke.

I was told Premiere CS4 can handle MTS better

                Could you support this line?

I don't like Premiere or Avid, because Edius is my choice.

I'll just have to sit and wait for lower system prices and Edius 5.5..............

                :-(

Yep , your system rocks! But too bad no realtime support yet...

Or just convert to HQ which was suggested in the first place. ;)

You don't have a choice today. You either convert AVCHD to HQ or be off with it. Until EDIUS 5.5 make its appearance, there is nothing you can do (with respect to EDIUS).

Of course, if you can use Premiere - sure, please feel free to do so.

why ? The Mercury engine is released already ?
I tought you also need a high end quadro cuda gpu card and a work station with a gazillion horsepower to do it ?

Better wait for 5.5, 3 more weeks :)

To me the claim that Premiere can do it is a joke. I have CS4 and it will play through the clips, but the second that you do ANYTHING to it edit wise, you have to render. I do not have the new mercury engine.

I can do 4 streams of realtime editing with Neo Booster (and this includes filters) with no problem. I expect the same in Edius 5.5 when it comes out.
