You can use 3DPIP, crop both clips so that they fit on the screen as you like, and check soft border and adjust as needed

great suggestions but i have a locked down shot for a & b both of the same area---just moved my subject matter (background stayed the same)---so i need to have both images on the screen at the same time - overlayed (was so easy to do with my older system - Leitch Velocity)

Just put two clip one on top of each other and drag a Border Wipe transition from the 2D Transitions group, and put it in the gray area of the clip on top and drag it all the way out to the right and double click the effect in the information pallete and keyframe start and end at 50, and check soft border box and adjust your width.
