  • "fixing" footage shot in the snow?

We shot some DV footage of a heavy equipment machine working in the snow. The footage is too dark because of the snow background. We should have use the backlight feature but I was not shooting the footage. Is there something I can do to bring up the equipment and tone down the snow?

I never have done any color correcting so I have no clue what to do. In Photoshop I could easily fix the "problem" in a still.

    Video I have no clue!

Being familiar with Photoshop might just help you on this.
Go to the YUV curves filter and try adjusting it there.
It works pretty much the same way as the curves function
    in Photoshop does.

        Video I have no clue!
Fellow Edius user Torsten Hoff put together an excellent tutorial on White Balance and Color Correction. This should assist.

Anton has also put together some first class tutorials that might also help. Search online.

        Hope this helps

YUV can be a little daunting...
Don't forget to try the Doubled Video method.

          (with Sync Mode off)
Ctrl+Drag clip to a higher V track to copy
Apply the Screen Keyer to the upper track.
Adjust Transparency rubber band on the upper track to suit.
          Be amazed!

Thank you all for the help. It all works good and the video is usable.

One question, How do I adjust the Transparency? I do not see or can find any rubber bands to drag for the video.

There are two triangles on the left side of the V tracks, click the lower one (Alt+W) to expose the Mixer track.
              Pick "Mix" to enable.
              Shift+Drag to move all points.
              Enjoy!
