  • How much RAM reccomended for Edius 2.5

I posted earlier that Edius freezes in Edit mode during review of timeline. Looked at CPU useage and it goes to 90-100%. Am using 2.53 GHz pentium 4 processor with 1 GB RAM. I do not knowingly run additional applications at the same time. Is this way too little memory? What should I have to ensure no glitches or freezing. Thanks.

Not even Memory will save you from this :)

Your processor doesn't seem to be HT (Hyper Threading).

I think it's time for an upgrade.

It's always good to get at least 2GB of RAM.

Thanks. I think you were right on the money. The pentium 4 is supposed to support hyperthreading, but when I tried to verify it seems it is not doing it. Something is probably set wrong. I am trying to correct the hyperthreading issue.

For hyper-threading, since you have a 2.53Ghz CPU that would mean it's FSB (Front Side Bus) is 533Mhz. There was only one P4 with 533Mhz FSB that had HT and that was the 3.06Ghz/533Mhz CPU. All 800Mhz FSB P4 CPUs have HT. Getting a HT CPU will give you upto a 50% boost with Edius and with your current CPU I don't think so. Double Check, Look at your task manager look at the Performance Tab you should see 2 CPU Usage boxes.

But if you're looking a bit more boost Core2Duo is the way to go, even the slowest Core2Duo will give you a big boost. For example with Edius when I upgraded from the 3.06Ghz HT CPU to a 2.4Ghz Core2Duo the performance doubled like going to a P4 6.12Ghz HT CPU!

There was a 2.8Ghz P4 with HT....Like Angelo recommended, a system update would be vital if you can do it or have the money at the moment.
