  • Auto Colour

I am trying to correct a lot of holiday video because the camera failed to Auto WB correctly. I have tried WB in Edius but not successfull. The auto colour filter in After Effects is muich better but very time consuming when creating new files. Does anything in Edius work as well.

I usually have great success in Edius. The best bet normally is to use the individual White, Black, and Gray controls in the White Balance. Watch this tutorial by Thoff to get a good understating of the White Balance Filter. http://vimeo.com/groups/edius/videos/8901567

If you have a number of similarly lit scenes, I would suggest that you color balance one and create a preset. This is done by right clicking on the color balance in the Information Palette, once created, and saving it as a user preset. Once saved you can select all clips that have a similar color balance and apply the saved preset to all by dragging and dropping the effect into them. It's very fast once you have corrected the first clip.

the grey balance tool is the most useful

        1. push the gray radio button inside white balance
        2. click something that should be grey such as concrete or grey cloud

Thanks for all your suggestions. I had already seen the WB video, I will try the grey balance but at present nothing touches the simplicity of the AE Auto Color filter

Thanks Anton, I tried gray and its veery good Its the closest i will get. The Cam was a PanaHDC-HS300 looked ok in viewfinder its gone back to Pana under warranty. Ive took early retirement last year from FT job and may hang my camera and rest my right eye after this year but will keep AE for fun. Its just that the clips are too long for AE

So true. I only recently discovered the power of this. This works better than AE auto color. Just yesterday I had a clip to color correct that I thought would be really time consuming to correct. One click and it was like magic. The grey balance corrected the clip beyond expectations. One less task for AE.
