  • blu-ray to Encore using Edius to encode

    in a nutshell:

HD project done - followed Anton's tutorial and made elementary HD streams per his suggestions - they won't import into Encore. It gets to about 40% imported and fails (locks up). Checked the Encore help base and came up with possible solution but I don't understand one part that I know someone here can explain to my withered mommy brain:

ENCORE SITE SAYS: Note: If the high-definition video assets that you import are H.264 encoded, transcode them to 23.976 fps if assets have 24 fps frame rate. Encore cannot burn a Blu-ray project with H.264 assets set to 24 fps.

WHAT IS H.264? My frame rate is 29.97i (see below) - should it be 29.97p over 59.94i? I have no idea what the difference is. It's not 24fps as mentioned above...so that should not have an issue RIGHT??? Encore DOES take the file formats suggested by Anton, so that's not an issue, right?

    Project setting on Edius:
    Hardware : NHX-E2
    Video
    Frame size : 1440 x 1080
    Frame rate : 29.97( 30000/1001 )
    Pixel aspect : 1.3333
Field order : Top Field First
    Audio
    Rate : 48000Hz
    Sample size : 24 Bit
    Channel : 2
    Setup
Render format : Canopus HQ Standard
    Over Scan Size : 3 %

JUST WHEN YOU GET IT DOWN, they change the whole thing on you. ugh.
I'm reading more and more that make me think I know nothing.
    :(

ADDITIONAL QUESTION: Should I decide NOT to encode in Edius, letting Encore encode the blu-ray, what setting should I use to make a good quality compatible AVI-like format? What is the standard HD AVI output?

Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, but she did it backwards and in high heels.

If Anton's suggested format is mpeg2 elementary stream then it should take, you just have to be patience, Encore acts like it froze also on mine when open an long file, just leave the computer for a while, if after 30 minutes and it still stuck then it is really stuck.
