  • EDIUS NX Express to edit HV20, HDV video

Does any one out here use Grass Valley EDIUS NX Express to edit HV20, HDV video? is it any good?, I have DVStorm2 to edit DV and it has always been stable and good. If I had NX Express can I do the reverse pull down to work with pure 24p, can NX Express handle it?
I would be much obliged if any one has experience with this hardware and the HV20 to post their experience.

The advantage for getting the NX is perfect timeline sync to external monitor with I/O ports and large buffer (compared to 1394 card) in HD. Canopus' HQ files will give you more RT editing power than the native M2T files too.

For reverse pull down ProCoder3 has a "Video Inverse Telecine Filter". Edius4 does have an OHCI HDV 1080/23.98p profile you can test out, myself I don't know. As for the NX outputting 24p, I don't know but I don't think so, as I haven't see any 24p monitors in the "main" market.

I too have the DVStorm and HV20 camcorder and since my finale output is SD DVD, I'm currently capturing 1440x1080 4:2:0 M2T files (via 1394) and with ProCoder3 converting them to 720x480 4:2:2 HQ files to edit with the Edius/DVStorm combo with perfect timeline SD sync and endless RT.

I did some testing with PC3’s Inverse Telecine filter with Canon’s HV20 HDV PF24 recoding mode.

Which I posted in ProCoder3 Forum:
