  • JVC-GY-HM-700 en Edius

recorded a musical in full HD with 2 cameras JVC GY-HM 700, edited the footage in Edius 5.12 and burned it on a dvd.
The picture quality on the dvd varies, all overview pictures are exellent and very sharp, all half-totals and close-ups become unsharp.
I have tested all possible export settings without a reasonable result. Is there someone with the same problem or do you know a solution
    for this issue? Theo Otten

How sharp are the pictures in edius? It's kind've easy to lose focus on those cameras in HD- especially if you've not used them a lot, and you're shooting with stage lighting...
    Work: Edius 7.20.437 on HP Z220 workstation; Edius 6.08 on i7 running Win 7 64 bit 6 GB RAM. Neo 2.0 on a Lenovo T61. JVC GY-HD201 and GY-HD110.
Home: Canon HV20 and Panasonic GH1 (hacked); Neo 3.01 on HP elitebook 8440p i7 and Neo 1 on homemade dualcore desktop.

and if you are not using a reference monitor the image is smaller on your
computer, hence it is more in focus.

dvd as an end product for hd does not justify. you should output to bluray instead. we did a test with panasonic hd footage on edius everything look great but when it was down converted to dvd, the sharpness is just not there. drag the dvd file onto the edius timeline along with the original hd footages you will see what i mean.
off topic question, with jvc hd footages, how smooth is edius editing work flow? can it edit without converting?
        regards,
        ed

Did you use virtual dub to make the down convert. You can
always add sharpness with the SD downconvert.
This is the most common/trusted method used by users
on this forum. If you are not familiar with the process
go to Anton's website for a tutorial.
