  • PCI Bus Busy Error

Hi, I just built a new system for my PCI-X NHX-E1 card with expansion Kit (PCI Card and bay). When a make a new proyect like HDCAM/HDV 1080/59.94i with frame size 1440x1080 and add clip say CanapusHQ avi of the some frame size, put it on the timeline and try to play it back, I get a PCI BUS BUSY error. Im using edius 4.2.

Must of my work have been SD editing, add my old sistem have worked fine, now I built a new system for HDV editing and get the error message.

    My hardware is Asus P5K WS, e6600 2.4Ghz, 2 Gbs Ram PC2-6400, eVGA Gforce 7600 256Mbs, 1 WD Raptor 150GBs(Boot), 2 WD RE SATA2 320Gbs Raid0, Seagate 7200.10 500Gbs SATA2.

    Any advice,

    William

You may want to test it with better/different videocard (lots of users with 6600 complaning about problems, make sure also that you didn't overclocked your CPU and that there are no problem with IRQ/memory sharing. You have to use RAID-0 for video-audio files, you may also try to change slots (if supported by your motherboard. And you have too many hard drives... please check for good ventilation and get nice and expencive power supply.

      Some Things I Tried

I tried moving the PCI card to a different slot. Same error.
Removed raid hard drives. Left with 2 Sata Drives (1 Boot, 1 Video) Same error.

I only have in the motherboard the pciex16-video card, pci-x NX card, pci expansion pack card. NO other cards installed.

I opened a new proyect with DV SD dv59.94 16:9 and put the same captured file (canopusHQ 1440x1080) and it would playback fine. No error and smooth playback.

I opened a new HD proyect and on applications settings, playback, unchecked the stop playback at frame drop, i play the same clip from the timeline, i do not get a PCI busy mesaage, but playback seems to be like in slow motion.

I an going to try is reinstalling everything (windows) and install ediues 3.6 and see what happens.

The gforce7600 newest drivers did not work well with xplode4.5 very well. Most of the effects displayed black screen. Resolved installing a version of the drivers that were whql certified. The newest were not. The first chance
I get I am changing the video card. My old system had an ATI Radeon700 and no problems.

      Thanks mike for your advice,

Do you have the firewire port enabled on the mobo? If so, disable that in the bios.

Also, if you have both of the PCI-E gigabit lan ports enabled, diable one of them. If you are using both raids, that might cause an issue.

Just not having cards in the machine does not mean that resources have not been alotted. Make sure you have disabled anything that you are not using from with in the bios.

I do know that that YUKON driver is a little twitchy. At least the one that is on THe p5WDG2 WS Pro is.

I just received my board and was noticing what slots shared what.
The pci-x slot shares with pci slot 1, so use 2 for expansion card. The second lan(8056) shares with it also, disable. The Pci-e 16x slot shares as well. The usb 4 and 5 connectors share this too, so don't use or disable. So you would be left with pci-x and the Pci-e 16x slot sharing. This should be ok, provided the cards work well with each other. My 1950x acts a little funning with either my 39320 scsi card or my 3ware 9550sx card in the pci-x slot on the [email protected] WS Pro.
So, take a little time and find out what is activated. This might get rid of your PCI bus busy.
        Just some thoughts.

          Thanks for the advice Jerry.

I already gave up. I knew about the irq sharing, and tried to manualy assing the card to a free IRQ but could not do it.

I bought a new motherboard, and problem solved.

Bought the Asus P5WDG2 WS Pro, works flawless.

          Thanks
