Edius does have good realtime capabilities I believe because everything is converted on import/capture to the YUYV codec which is handled by the GV card if you have one, and CPU/GPU if you don't. Both video overlays on PC and the baseband outputs on all cards and BOBS are derived from that source as far as I know.
You get no more realtime other than realtime with FX in 8bit 2UV. A file on output will have been in Canopus 8bit 4:2:2 UYVY, regardless of input source, all effects are 8 bit YUV.
This is good for realtime and allows Grass Valley to keep their RT promises by keeping it simple with all FX's and processing in YUVY, but it's not good if you aren't crazy about the 8bit 4:2:2 UYVY codec, or preserving a native workflow/format for higher bit depths or better colourspaces.
