There are two bugs associated with QuickTime...

#1) Chrominance & Luminance is off when you import QT files (especially Apple DV footage)
#2) AR (Aspect Ratio) flag is not recognized in Edius...so if you import 16:9 files into Edius, and you have loads of them, you will have to individually right click and go into the properties of each clip and change it to 16:9.

Last time I checked, with 4.23, neither of these were fixed.

    I need to check 4.24

Jumps back to the cut as in 3.61 or stays "somewere in the field" as in 4.02 till now.

For me it is the worst BUG of Edius 4. PLEASE TRY TO EXPLAIN THEM TO FIX IT !!!
      you can fix this yourself

      1. go to application settings
      2. go to playback settings
      3. untick all except the top one (stop playback at frame drop)

I understand that current broadcast users will still have the ability to edit p2/mxf natively. But, that asterisk is scaring the heck out of me. If version 5 comes along and we then need a turnkey solution to work with our p2 footy natively, I am going to absolutely lose it.

There are a lot of people who made the jump to EDIUS b/c it is the only NLE out there with proper and full support for the P2 workflow. And there are even more who are anxiously awaiting what 4.5 brings to possibly push them over the edge and make the jump to EDIUS as well. If we lose that, people will go mad. I shouldn't say if we lose it, but if we are then forced to buy a hardware add-on to be able to edit it.... That is a potentially very scary thing for me looking forward...

Rest assured, P2 support isn't shifting to "Turnkey Only" overall, so you won't miss out. All that you need to know, is that the AVC-Intra plug-in will attract a separate charge.

There are some changes being worked out that may, or may not eventuate, regarding EDIUS Broadcast. The focus at the moment is to advertise it as a "turnkey only" product, but still offer a separate option pack for software-only, or NX/SP customers (in essence, the EDIUS Broadcast upgrade renamed).

There'll be more on that in a few months, and you guys will be the first to know. (I knew that RSS feature would come in handy)

Lol. I'm already too attached to another forum. Don't get me on some rss thingy :)

That's good to hear. But, just to clarify (if you are able at this point), this continued software based p2 support is not only for existing EDIUS users, right? Meaning some of these people who decide to make the jump with 4.5 or 5 will also have a software only option as well, right?

p.s. where do I find this rss subscription :) (EDIT: Found it...)
            Thanks,

In short, yes, there'll always be a way to get EDIUS running with P2, without needing or buying hardware/turnkeys.

Thanks for that info... I haven't tried 16:9 or apple DV yet. The 4:3 QT's that I imported were compressed with Radius SoftDV codec and they looked fine. Before 4.24, the Chrominance & Luminance was off with the same files. Now they look normal. I better try other QT's. Thanks StormDave.

First, happy to see you back on-line, looks to be a great resource!

Concerning the new face lift for 4.5, it looks professional and consitent with the GV template. I'm sure the overall response will be postive.

I would be interested in leraning more about file formats in 4.5, in particualr the 24F 30F formats utilized in Videocams such as the Canon XH-A1. Most of my work is in 1080i, but I'd like to know I have the option to edit in Canon's progressive format as well.

                  Thanks in advance!

I've posted this elsewhere, but yes, Canon 30F, 25F, 24F all went into EDIUS some time ago (v3.61 from memory). So it stands to reason that v4.5 will support those formats too.

Will open Edius 4.5 windows get consolidated into one button on the task bar?

                        And how is Vista compatibility?

The fact that Edius was only one bar in 4.5 made everyone smile at NAB.

Yes, the 'Canopus DV Driver' still exists.
