A former collegue of mine used "chinese" characters in TMP and Edius 3.x & 4.x, I assume it will work the same in 5.x.

I am not in direct contact with him but could ask him how he did it, if you can't get it running.

What I do remember is that you need indeed the language to be installed in Windows & also to have that language activated in your regional settings of Windows.

This experience is referring to Windows XP, not sure if vista or Win7 will also follow this procedure.

I have problems too with russian and east european characters in TMPRO. I can type direct in TMPRO but no import or paste. In QT -- ok.
If your text is short you can try type chinese direct in TMPRO :)

I managed to contact the Edius user who has it working on XP for years, and now can share with you the procedure of making it work in TMP.

The problem actually lies with the font's windows Chinese fronts work in notepad, but in order to use them in e.g. video software, you'll need the True Type fonts installed if you want to use it, the windows fonts will not work.

See attached png for steps to take, I myself have not these fonts or Asian language installed so the pic is showing the original English settings.

#1) You'll need to install files for East Asian Languages, in order to be able to proceed with step 2 until 4, you won't actually use them.

#2) You need to Add input language.

                #3) Select " Chinese/Taiwan " and

#4) Vink Keyboard layout/IME and Select " Chinese Traditional Quick" and click O.K.

                5) again at #2) you Add input language.

                6) at #3) Select " Chinese/PRC " and

                7) at #4) Vink Keyboard Layout/IME and Select " Chinese Simplified QuanPin "

By doing this windows should be set up correctly for use with Chinese True type fonts, You might still need to find the actual font as the person who used this installed a CD-R full, approx. 600 MB of data.

Unfortunately I can't help to link to a download / purchase link as this is user collected.

Note : to be able to use Chinese characters in TMP or anywhere else you actually need to be able to read and write them.

                Good luck ...........................

p.s. not sure if the person want's to be mentioned by name in this forum, but the credit goes to the Friendly Edius user !, not myself.

                  thanks, I will try that

I already have the East Asian fonts, and the actual font used in document is SimSun.TTF which I already installed

however, I did not change input language

btw: are you saying that I can't paste text to TMPro? if yes, then this is bad because I can't type chinese

but, it all works perfect in quick titler with copy/paste from Word Document

I think this was a once off, so I can live with the blur blur blur blur vision of QT

I live around the chinese town, not long ago I remember that a friend of mine said to put the Windows Installation CD into the ROM drive, tick on the language option then install that option into your currently using pc. Then if you want to type in the Chinese language you need you know how to pronounce the words, basing on the sound( the pronunciation) of the word then you type they keys, it will show you a list to choose from, select which word is best for your work. I have not tried yet but I hope you can do it sucessfully. It's a little hard for you in the pronounce of the words.
                    Good luck.
PS: As Mr SoundFreak, you need to know how to read, pronounce, and write Chinese language then you are able to use it with the keyboard. Another way to simplify this matter is to scan(capture, photograph...) that Chinese language page then use the magic method of Photoshop to make the effects, colour...Hope you can do it easily.

I will stick with Quick Titler for this one, so a big thumbs up to Quick titler on this rare occasion, as easy as copy and paste

Anton,Copy and paste from word will work, both in Quick Titler and TMP, but it will not be sharp, you need to type them in "Qwerty English" and convert them, one by one, knowing that you always strive for quality, I doubt so you will except that.

Anyway, I did a test myself, I manage to get hold of the Chinese True type fonts and were able to play a bit in QT, i did not have TMP installed in my office system but it works just the same.

From the screen grab you can see that some text is a bit blurry, this happens when you select a wrong font, when selecting the correct font you will see it looks really sharp and good.

I have installed the entire 600 MB of fonts and if your installation of Chinese true type fonts are similar, you could e-mail me your word document, than i'll ask my friendly Edius user to make text files in TMP, you can then animate them yourself if needed.

                            Hi Tony

yes, QT works fine here and I can copy/paste from word, I don't even need to change input language

I will stick with QT for jobs like this, which are very rare

I just wish QT would show sharp text without having to hit F3 all the time

Better stick with copy & paste then, when I saw how difficult it is to type English ( with not much sence) and than being presented with various Chinese characters too choose from I got a instant head ache :)

The copy & paste is new too me, great that this also works, but as you mentioned, not in TMP, indeed for the one of jobs it will be o.k.

For user who are looking for different languages need to follow the language input settings in windows but modify the settings to their language.

For Chinese users, note that in TMP not all Chinese Fonts are producing sharp or even the corect charecter, I think this is a TMP issue, in QT all is fine.
