  • Freeze on playback

I have installed edius V4 Broadcast on a new quad processor all the bells and whistles computer and I still have a major problem with playback freezing on me every time it comes to a transition or multiple layers etc. Even 2 layers of audio will overload it.I thought edius could handle real time renders etc.
    PLEASE any thoughts!!!

You must be doing something wrong or there is something wrong with you machine. I'm doing 2 layers HDV (hq) on a notebook.

Are you getting the "Stop Playback! A Frame Drop Has Occurred." type of message?

You may want to increase the value of the RT Buffers (in Hardware Settings) to utilise more of your system's RAM.

          still freezing

OK, I have increased my buffer to 96 but I still cant play any more than a few seconds at a time before I get the "playback stopped" message.
If i have have DVCPRO and MPG's on the same timeline what project settings should I use then. I am using canopus lossless for rendering, maybe I am just doing it wrong. My final output is to HD MPG (720 50P) and I need to use different formats on the time line. I thought that was the beauty of edius....

It is the beauty of Edius. Obviously there is something not set up right in your machine or some settings. We just need some more info to work it out. Start with your machine set up and then give us your project settings.

Try closing your mixer if it's open. If the mixer is open, it uses up the buffering. Be sure to "render all" and use "shift + space" to play. You can also "print to file" and open the new file. We use the "P2" option so we can play back out of our P2 cameras and players. When playback off of the timeline has proven problematic and rendering doesn't solve the problem, "print to file" usually works.
