  • What happened to the DVStorm forum?!?

    It's gone!
DVStorm2 was once the latest and greatest capture card on the market, now Canopus won't even feature it on canopus.com ???
    WHAT THE....?!??!
I spent $2000 on this card and now it's useless?

Heh, I think you need to take a chill pill my friend :)

Storm2 (And Storm1, respectively) have been discontinued for a while now (Few years). The crazy part Edius 4.x still supports it! And it works!

My main station was Storm2 Pro for a while and it was pretty solid with Edius4, but now I upgraded to a Mac Pro and will be doing OHCI under XP (Via Bootcamp) or get an NX (50% chance it'll work).

Don't fret, if you have any questions regarding Edius and Storm2, you're allowed to ask here. If it's Premiere 6.5 (or Premiere Pro 1.5) [Both are discontinued by Adobe] then I guess you won't be in luck. In that case, try PM'ing me and I will try to help you out with these two.

Storm 2 even works with a few newer Core 2 Duo based motherboards, so it's even working in those environments...Look at Angelo's specs, he has a Storm2 setup with newer Dual Core processors.

The PCI slot is slowly diminishing, so Storm2 will be totally dead once all computers are PCIexpress and if you need to upgrade...

I had two Storms (One 2 Pro the other SE, dates back to 2001!), totally dropped Premiere and use Edius full time.

Personally I have been waiting for Canopus to start a crossgrade offer for the Storm cards to newer cards without the Edius bundle. Although I keep asking the question I don't think it will ever happen :(
I don't need another copy of Edius.

There was an offer like this more than a year ago....either way you basically get Edius for free if you buy an NXExpress for $1,200

It is not useless but it is a discontinued product and has been for a couple of years.

Edius questions are welcome and when they involve the Storm that is fine but we are concentrating on the products available for a while now.

As computers leave behind the slots available for the Storm it is going to be harder and harder to upgrade with it.

We are here to help but we have to keep it Edius related :)

The DVStorm can't be manufactured because of "special" chips that are discontinued by the chip manufacturer therefore Canopus had no choice and to design a new board which is the NX series of boards. So if you can't make the DVStorm how can you feature them on the web site?

It still is the greatest capture card for DV editing and if your DVStorm card fails you can still get Canopus/GV to do a repair.

Edius4 and ProCoder2/3 supports DVStorm, which is very important to me. So to say it useless is wrong as GV is still supporting the hardware with their software.

            ...Angelo
            Canopus/GV: DVStorm2 w/component-out board, ADVC300, Edius 4.61, ProCoder 3.05, Imaginate2
            System: MSI B75A-G43 (v2.0), i7-3770K, 4GB, HD6850, Pyro1394 pci-e, 6 Disks 2.4TB non-raid, Win7-32bit, Dell 24" & 19" LCD

Ok, time to wrap this one up.

As said, it's totally fine to talk about DVStorm in the context of the products already covered by these forums. (i.e. EDIUS)
