Oh somehow I was thinking you're frame rate were 60P with your 720P footage, in this case it is very easy, you don't have to encode to AVCHD, just change your project to to 1280X720 23.98P over 59.94P after you have edit your video, then
    hit F11
    choose MPEG (Elementary Stream)
adjust your bitrate... for your project lengh
render it out and load the video and audio file into your authoring program and author. Guarantee PQ will be better on a HDTV than if you would upscale it to 1080P and try to make a 1080P Blu-ray disc.

BTW I don't know what you are talking about you can't create a 720P 24P project, and GV guys are under no obligation to reply to you, they are just moderators.

I didn't say that the GV guys were obligated to answer my question. I was just wondering why they didn't since they were active in other threads. I also assumed that, since they seem to represent Grass Valley, they would know or could find out about the up-scaling process.

When creating the project, I could not find an option for 1280x720 24p. The only one listed was 1280x720 23.98p. There was however a 1920x1080 24p option and, since my footage is true 24p (and for other reasons I mentioned), I chose 1080.

Another thing, it seems that I can't change the project settings to 1280x720 23.98p for some reason and I only see 3 of the options.

I'm curious to know, in average, how long does a question through the "Full Support Web-mail form" take to be answered?

it is not a Edius issue ==> Edius projects are conform with "video standards"

23,976 is a BD conform format

Thanks for the chart, CentralEurope. I suppose you're referring to the issue of the missing 1280x720 24p format. Well, according to this chart, I was supposed to have the option to choose 1280x720 @24p but I don't. Contrary to this chart, I have the option to choose 1920x1080 @24p.

It's also listed in their supported formats list:

            1920 x 1080/59.94i, 50i, 29.97p, 25p, 24p, 23.98p

            1280 x 720/59.94p, 50p, 29.97p, 25p, 23.98p

Edius seems to support the reverse of the video standards pertaining to 720 and 1080 at 24p...or am I missing something?

I guess my question is what is your final delivery format? That is why I try to shoot, edit and output under the same settings. That is a safe bet all the way through.
Since you are not capturing you are using native files. If it is 720p, stick to that all the way through.

The chart above is for Blu-ray compliance, not Edius formats. That means, you can only, ONLY, use one of those settings to be able to play on a Blu-ray disc.

This is a paragraph from the Edius page:

Featuring unrivaled real-time video transcoding technology, EDIUS software converts between HD and SD resolutions, aspect ratios, and frame rates—all in real time. You can edit 1080i on a 4:3 SD timeline, use NTSC and PAL sources, or combine them all into a 720/24p project without wasting a single moment on conversion or rendering.
It is curious that you are not showing that preset....

These are Resolutions from the HD STORM page:

                •1920 x 1080/59.94i
                •1920 x 1080/50i

                •1280 x 720/50p

Tony: I obviously won't find the answer about the up-scaling process here ;) I usually like to call a company for support but they did not list it as an option. I searched their website until I found a number that I'm about to try. Thanks for the heads-up.

Jerry: Because of the process I used in fixing a stair-stepping problem with my first 720p footage, I chose to up-scale it to 1080p. Since my new 720p footage does not have this problem I can use it at its original format but my project and the earlier footage are already at 1080p.

I would be ok with 720p delivery but the question is 1) Why don't I have the 720/24p option? and 2) What's the best way to integrate my new 720p footage in the 1080p project?
