  • Zoom - Does anyone else find this incredibly annoying?

Other NLE applications center the cursor on the timeline on the first press of zoom and then continue to zoom in or out accordingly. Edius leaves the cursor exactly where it is and zooms. This means if the cursor is to one side of the screen when you zoom, edius just leaves it there.

Is it just me or is this counter intuitive? When I zoom, I want to reveal the timeline equally, what has just passed and what is to come based on where the cursor is. That makes sense to me.

Is there anyway to fix this?

    Thanks for your time.

I am hoping that this will be fixed in 4.5 or I may have a fit

I love the way the timeline dances around when you paste something.

I like it when the cursor jumps out of the window completely!
Wish I could be in Sydney when 4.5 rolls out. Whee!

I'll see if we can get a release from the artist to video that event (and his reaction to the 4.5 release) and post to all here. Wheee!

Seriously, it is way high time the cursor held focus. I miss what I had 15 yrs ago in another app (and onwards for 9yrs) and cannot yet have it (still today!) with Canopus (and now GV).

I am not sure though whether the current method of highlighting with Orange rectangle as last active action is better replaced with cursor moving focus to that edit action. I think there is room for both!!

Brings me back to a feature request I had for Edius V1 in an old post then re having History Dialogue Box which I elaborated on then but have not put up as a new feature request.

This is not really a "FIX" problem as much as a "I would like it to to work this way" thing.

I find it bothersome also but I understand the thinking behind it. You place the cursor on the timeline where you want to have the effect and the option window mirrors that position.

Your right Mike, its not really a fix.

I don't understand the rest of your message, how would that be affected by centering the zoom area based on where the cursor is?

Vegas is nice with zoom, in that the mouse wheel controls this and zoom in and out is very quick with cursor at centre. The main reason I do all my audio editing in Vegas. Sound Forge does this too. I have my Shuttle Pro set up so that most controls are the same for all these apps when possible. That would be nice in Edius.

My apologies... i thought you were talking about a keyer or filter with a Key framer. :)

I do agree that it would be nice to have it in the middle.

Well I had a quick play with 4.5 yesterday at SMPTE and I cant be sure but it looks like this zoom issue has been fixed.

                      4.5 looks fantastic btw.

Scratch that... its still the same.

Seriously, forget the bells and whistles... just give me a time-line that operates like it should.

Thats where 99% of all the work goes on and its still buggy. I don't get it...

I find this infuriating to say the least, if my timeline marker is in the middle of a transition, then I zoom in, I expect to zoom to the centre of the transition.

99% of the time you end up at the far right of the timeline and have to constantly refocus.

It really shows that "Editors" with Clients and Deadlines and Tiltes and Tapes and, Effects and Mattes and Keys and Music Fixes, Format Changes, Stills to Process, Graphics to Design, Flash files to Render, make the Tea, order Stock, and and and and .... finally - just keep that cursor in the MIDDLE PLEASE.

Corr, that's better, nothing like a rant - but who does test this software out?
Any editor working to a deadline with a client or two would list a few necessary fixes, whether bug or operational, that would be seen as totally essential - not "oh it's just the way YOU edit, most people do it differently"

Thanks for 4.51c - its almost there, I think we're down to Title problems, a few random crashes - an uncontrollable timeline - VST's that don't work and of course our friend the After Effects plugin which I believe is "in the system"

I have my zoom in and out mapped to the - and = keys on the keyboard, as well as fit mapped to the \ key.

This mirrors Premiere and allows me to reorient the cursor by quickly zooming to fit and then back in on the cursor.

But it would be nice to have the mouse buttons mappable in the customize section as well. Give us the option to change mouse wheel up and down to zoom control rather than jogging through frames.

Back when I was suffering through the Video Toaster 2, I appreciated Toaster Edit's mapping of timeline zoom to right-clicking on the mouse and moving it up or down to zoom. Aside from the storyboard view, that was one of the nicest features that editor had going for it.

I wonder how hard it would be to factor mouse input into the customization window?

It's true they arn't mapable in the customise section, but holding 'ctrl' while you scroll your mouse wheel already toggles shuttle mode to zoom mode so you don't need to map it right?
