  • Image matte?

Not sure if it's called like that... when you create a matte using a .psd or .jpg

    Is that possible with Edius?

    Yes. Use .bmp or .tga

Could you please tell me what do I do?
I import the .tga and then go with the luminance keyer?

Ok, I have a clip where I want to mask-out the upper part (sky) and give it (speed-up) clouds from another clip.
So basicly I want to be able to create a custom mask (or matte, I'm not sure if I'm even calling it correctly) so I can put a clip on top of the clip, but just on those places I masked.

Hope you get what I mean. (not a native english person)

Ok put your normal clip on V1 and your speed up cloud on V2 exactly above,
drag a Alpha custom map into the clip on V2, double click the Alpha custom map in the information window, click on the alpha map tab, load in your matte, click on keyframe tab and adjust your transparancy, depend on how your create your matte, you might have to click on general tab and check reverse rendering.

Yes, what you want to do is possable.

Is your "keyed" footage (the one with the sky to be removed) static or moving? Is it have all blue, or perhaps all grey? Those can be keyed with Chrominance or Luminance Key. Alpha Channel stuff (.psd, etc.) require the use of 3D-PnP to make use of Alpha.

The edges will be trickiest to make look decient and the shifting color toward the horizion won't help eather. Play with the contrast of your keyed footage for an improved key also.

Your project will require some work, so hang in there.

I assumed that you know how to create a matte, but if not, this is how, Ctrl T to make a single frame of your clip, open Photoshop and make the sky all black and everything else all white, save as a .bmp and that is your matte.

I have found an 'alpha custom map' only in the transitions bin and it applies like a transition.
Is there supposed to be something else or that is it?

I have tried working with keyers- it is tricky and to make it good it depends a lot on the footage itself.
I would like to be able to create custom masks in photoshop (also for many other things)

If it is that 'alpha custom map' in transitions, I have found out how to make it do what I want.

Thank you very much for your help.

Yep that is it, you just keyframe it to hold so that it won't do a transitions.
