I also can confirm that I can open and play the nikon D90 files from the website Hans has posted.

I downloaded the avi files and they play on my laptop and desktop systems. What was not very clear is which EDIUS version the OP is using.
    I use version 5.12

I would suggest an upgrade to 5.12 first then try again. If they fail to play there is something else wrong with your system.

Sorrry, can not agreeing for my Edius 5.12
looks for me more as a individual problem from your HW or SW (Quicktime??)

    Test config.

    i7-940 3GB
    XP-SP3 ...(german)
Edius 5.12 ....as OHCI .....(german ==> with renamed "Localice" folder)
clean NLE station, without internet \ codec-packs \ Nero \ other ugly stuff.....

    File: DSC_0165.avi.......(25.109 KB)
    Filesource: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0809/08...plegallery.asp

    Results:
    • successfully play native D90.avi on timeline video + audio ==> puffer runs up to 70
    • successfully convert to HQ Online Quality ==> per Bin ==> contex on clip ==> "convert"
    • successfully play HQ converted D90.avi on timeline video + audio ==> puffer runs up to 280

please, excuse the miserable english ....friendly greetings from ....CentralEurope

If GSpot can render it, but EDIUS can't use it, then sometimes it's a filter priority issue, especially when it's something with multiple decoders like MPEG-2 or AC3.

    gspot

OK - but what does gspot come up with - if gspot can render the file as readable and correctly identifies the codec as installed then its an Edius issue. If gspot comes up with issues then its probably a codec issue.

If gspot is new to you then just do a google for gspot avi

the above post has just come up ahead of mine - sounds like thats more of the issue - however, it would be interesting to see what gspot makes of it!

    best of luck anyway

There is another discussion of a similar issue for files from a Canon camera, seen here: http://ediusforum.grassvalley.com/fo...ad.php?t=13118

The workflow should be similar. Check it out.

    avi

when you drag the avi into gspot - what does it say?
Usually when I get only sound / only video - it is a codec issue.
gspot should show you that the avi can be played correctly or if there is a codec problem.
