yes, the test project worked and yes, the file exists in the preset folder but I cannot get it to work for me.
If I start a new project and select the join the transition button cannot be selected. If I slice one of the clips then I can insert a transition at the slice mark but it does nothing.EDIUS v5, ASUS P5E X9650 @ 3.0GHz,1x 320GB Sata II for system, 4x 150GB 10,000RPM Raid5 for video, ATI radeon HD4600 Video Card, Windows 7 Ultimate, 64bit, 8GB Ram

if you can't add transition to 2 joining clips, this means the clips are fully extended and don't allow adding the transition, this is normal, so trim a bit of the end and a bit of the beginning of next clip and then it will work
or go to application settings and untick the very first option (Extend clips when adding....)Anton Strauss

I shoot continuously and then edit out the rubbish so end up with a slice between two bits of footage that are not necessarily temporally sequential. I can add other transitions successfuly to the joins between such slice bits of footage, just not the 2D ones.
Extend clips when adding was already selected.
I've been an Edius user for some years. This is a new installation on a Vista x64 system that previously had both an Edius and Neo trial installed on it. I suspect this may be a legacy issue from two much detritus left from the previous installs.EDIUS v5, ASUS P5E X9650 @ 3.0GHz,1x 320GB Sata II for system, 4x 150GB 10,000RPM Raid5 for video, ATI radeon HD4600 Video Card, Windows 7 Ultimate, 64bit, 8GB Ram

can you delete the dissolve on the project I supplied and then add it again
does it work? if yes, then there is no problem
btw, if extend clips when adding transitions is ticked, then you won't be able to add transitions when clips are fully extended, because there is no footage beyond the edge of the clip to allow the dissolve, so it should be unticked if you plan on doing that
I always trim my clips, so this does not affect meAnton Strauss
