With HDV files.. it seems to be more stable if the clips *were not split* during the import.

So I am recapturing 30 minutes of tape and will now try to import again and see how I go.
    Capture Canopus HQ
    ... so far so good.
I will edit 20 minutes of footage and let you know how i go
If you did a complete reinstall with format, did you install specific drivers for the motherboard, video card, sound card..etc., or did you just let Windows install drivers?
That may be why you have a 300 line error report.
Make sure to install current MOBO drivers for all items. These can be found on the MFG website for download. Go to the other MFG websites to get their drivers.
Reboot after each driver install or program. That is an old school thing...works great for me being old school.

Did you install other software prior to installing Edius? If so, what.
If you are running XP, install SP3, if you are running VIsta install SP1.
If you are running a GV hardware card, make sure you have the most current drivers installed for your specific card.

If you answered no to most of these questions, that may be where the issue begins.
If that is the case, you should just start from scratch with a reformat and reinstall. Make sure to take your time and install all of
    the aforementioned drivers.

For editing, a basic OS install becomes anything except basic. It takes time and patience to do it properly. Make sure you have all of the drivers and programs readily available to you at time of installation. This care in the beginning will net you months or years, of dependable operation....depending on how rough you are on the system.
I usually do a reinstall every 6-9 months. This cleans out all of the junk that can get into the system.

My next port of call would be a corrupt file. Recently I captured some of my daughter`s dv tapes for burning to dvd. One tape caused numerous crashes of Edius. I eventually tracked that down to a corrupted clip.

I've had something very similar happen in the past...
one corrupt file in the bin.

Edius would open fine, but as clip images populated the Bin, Edius would crash.

To narrow the possibility of clips appearing in the bin I made the Bin window very small, so I only see one clip at a time. Noting the filenames as I scrolled through the clips until the culprit clip appeared and crashed Edius. Deleting the bad clip with Windows Explorer allowed me to finish the project.

Even if that works, Edius is not functioning as it should. I second the uninstall/reinstall suggestion. Do you have Edius or is this Neo?

I have no idea what could cause this. As a first step I suggest you uninstall Edius (and be sure to remove all the residual Canopus and Edius folders still left behind as well) and then reinstall Edius.

Edius opens fine, and it captures fine.

However as soon as I open the bin and open the captured video files into the bin, it crashes

then it produces a 300 line error report but it wont let me copy and paste that.

I have edited something in DV and it was fine.. but I am now trying to edit a HDV video and soon as I import to bin... crash.
