  • How to correct Still Image with 4:1:1?

I have some DV video shots with red roses. When I preview the DV footage from my DVStrom connected to my 720p LCD via component-out (480i) with Edius 4.24 and no filtering applied, the image is artifact free from the 4:1:1 color sample with the reds looking just perfect. But when I Still Capture a frame and look at it with Photoshop I see the "horrors" of 4:1:1 in the reds. :D

How can I set Edius to export the image the way I see it on my LCD?

    Thanks...Angelo

Another thing is when I export a short video clip of the roses to Canopus HQ 720x480 NTSC and play it with Windows Media Player it doesn't look like my Edius/DVStorm's video out. Looking at both the 720p HDTV LCD and the CRT Monitor the red's in the roses are smooth with no jaggies or bars to be seen. But the HQ exported file (and stills) has horizontal red bars and jaggies all over the reds. Exporting from Edius to ProCoder2 yielded a better image but I still can see the horizontal bars.

Isn't Edius WYSIWYG? This is disappointing to say the least.

I don't think an lcd and crt will ever show an image the same way.
      2 different things.
      Also:
Windows media player is using the overlay from your video card and the out from the storm is professional video out.
I think it strange that you want to compare the 2. Because you are comparing the overlay of your video card to a device that outputs broadcast spec video.

If I am not wrong all processing in Edius is done 4:2:2 not 4:1:1

Also keep in mind that the Storm output (video) is NTSC safe and all NTSC rules apply.

Sometimes video looks good on your video output because it is video in the first place...

IE. The color gamut for RGB is between 16-235. Computers display 0-255.

Thanks Guys for the info, but I fixed the problem but setting the DV cam's color setting to a lower value then color corrected in Edius. Now the reds in the roses don't have the 4:1:1 color sample issue in the stills. From now on, I'll keep the cam's color at a lower value and re-adjust in post; got a love DV compression.
