  • New Forum: Documentation Requests

I just wanted to point out to everyone that there is a new (relatively speaking) forum listed under the Issues, Feedback, and Feature Requests regarding feedback for the Edius Manual that has no posts in it yet. Use it! so we can make this manual better.

I have a lot of it, but my english is not the best.....

    Part 1
the "Disk Burner Tool" is simply not available in the 5.1 User Guide, no one word about it.....

It so happens I posted a message in this forum last weekend but it has not appeared - it has disappeared into "moderation". It was, in essence, a request that the documentation should include tried and tested workflows using the various, and many, inputs and outputs now possible. It may be decided that this is not the best place to include this because users are a better source. If so I suggest a sticky in the appropriate forum where such workflows can be described by contented users.

I am sure what we would like to have are errors and parts of the program that the manual has omitted. I think workflow is not really covered by the manual.

I've put in a request for a proper Windows Help feature, the same that was in Edius versions prior to V5.

Windows style Help allows users to enter multiple words without knowing how or if they appear sequentially in text. E.g. in Help, searching for the words Filter and Matrix would find all records containing those words, regardless of order, and would find the words "Matrix Filter". Search the pdf file for the same words and it will return zero results (in fact I think the word "Matrix" as well as a lot of other effect names do not even appear in the pdf manual, indicating a lack of function descriptions).

Additionally, searching pdf files is painstakingly slow compared to the Windows Help file search engine. Removing the Windows Help functionality from Edius 5 was a real retrograde step.

I hope that if users feel the inclusion of a proper Help system would be beneficial, they'll show their support.

If you click the drop-down next to the Find box and Open the Full Reader Search, and Use Advanced Search Options then you can search by exact phrase or any words - you can also include searching the bookmarks, comments, attachments and even look across documents.

Not to be a downer here, but authoring Windows Help in addition to a traditional manual significantly adds to the time required for documentation. I've done it before, it's really not fun. But, I suppose if there's enough support, who knows?

Actually I am perfectly fine with the manual as the help file as long as the index functions get much better.

I don't mind showing my support for this issue, or the poor search return issue in the forum it self, but I rather don't as it might take away valuable time fixing Edius itself.

Time to stop the merry-go-round again. Pat's PSA says enough, really.
