Edius codec via hardware?

I want to ask whether Edius codec via hardware?
And why edius have to monitor audio via sound card in mother board? We can't monitor audio via board card?

Edius has a few codecs...the Pro (not Broadcast) version has Canopus DV, Canopus Lossless, Canopus HQ. If you install Edius, the codecs are available on your computer to other applications...so no it's not hardware only.

If you have an Edius NX card, it has an audio output...you can directly go to your speakers from there instead of going from the NX to the sound card then to the speakers from the soundcard.
