  • Thanks Mark. This was an easy one to do. I never had to leave the house to shoot it.

Only thing I would criticize: contrast is a little low on some shots, but that might as well be due to my twothousand-years-old screen. :-)

              • High School Football Edit

                Hello All,

I have never posted in this section but thought it was a good time to start!

Here in Texas American football is very popular. This time of year I film games every Thursday through Sunday of varying ages. Every Friday I film for a local 6a high school to make a highlight video of each game. Some of these game edits are chosen for the year end banquet as well.

This is a game from last Friday.

                Background:

This was shot with a Panasonic PX270 in 1080p60. It is a 1/3" chip camera but is so very useful and the image quality is just superb imho.

I put the footage on a 24p timeline and produce a 24p product. I am on the fence about 24p. It looks cool in low motion situations and some high motion situations. It is kind of edgy which everybody seems to like these days. This is my fourth season with this team and 2nd season in 24p. I might look at 30p though.

I do film these with a mind for 24p filming. I try not to move the camera very much and if I do, I try to sync with some kind of motion. This is something I have had to develop and am constantly evaluating and learning about.

The footage is 10bit 4:2:2. I use a mix of YUV, 3 way CC and Primary CC for my color correction. The main tool I use is 3 way CC as it is handy to be able to adjust the high frequencies to get the whites really white. The Primary CC is mainly used to lighten or lower exposure on certain clips. So happy this was added to Edius!

I use the Wave Arts "Track Plug" to EQ and compress the live audio (not much in this video ie did not include the coach speech). I also add Neat video to the night shots as the camera is set to 6db of gain to get the full use of the 22x zoom.

The file is exported in the AVC-Ultra 50 mbps format and then uploaded to the YouTubes.

So start to finish in Edius 8.5 Hope you enjoy!

                • Thanks. I thought about the bars but it would take away so much screen space. The plays are often all over the place. But maybe I will check it out.

I am not a fan of the milky mids look. :)

I enjoyed watching your camera work and editing. Looks like it requires a lot of experience.

                    • Thanks Mark. I appreciate it. It is definitely a challenge to be as creative as possible with the shots without getting creamed on the sideline! The camera has a good IS feature as well as Edius' stabilization filter helping out here and there.

                          • Apologies for lack of clarity.

I was referring to the hockey vids on your channel and the upper thirds game clock & lower thirds.

                            Cheers, eh.

                            • I thought that might be it but did not know. I use a second camera to film the game clocks and use layouter to shrink it down into the corner. A small camera like a Sony RX100 works just fine. Any lower third graphics are created either in the Edius titler or Photoshop. Nothing crazy. Thanks!

Edit: I forgot, I also use Element 3D for some 3D graphics as well as some 3D stuff in Boris Red.

                              • I've done something.

Everything (two exceptions, see below) was made in Edius, making heavy use of mask effects and layouter movements. Don't care about language, it's medical blabla anyway ;-)

                                the two exceptions:
                                # the heart turning in 3D was done in a 3D-software.
                                # the short lightgleam effect in the spotlight is from Hitfilm Ignite.
