  • Exploring Jigger Creek

Another project done for fun. Jigger Creek is located in the Cohutta Wilderness Area near Cisco, Georgia. I planned my visit for overcast conditions after a heavy rainstorm. This is an area where at age sixteen I attended “Operation Upstream” a four week wilderness survival training course in 1968.

This video was shot using a Panasonic GH4 camera, set at 1080p 60fps and recording at 200mbps. Lenses used were the Panasonic 14-45, 45-175, and Olympus 60mm macro as well as 75-300. Other equipment used was a Benro S-6 tripod, Tascam DR-40 audio recorder, and Rhino Slider V1 carbon. Edited with Edius 5.51.

              • Hey, Thanks. Moire actually visible, but it was a little drawback of this camera. That's right, there is a lot of inconsistency in the difference of light. Generally, in 1. film I played with possibilities. His face is masked but I don't push too much shadows. We didn't have lighting and shadows were horrible.

                • Guitarist Billy Rogan videos

So this was my first chance to really exploit the Edius multicam feature. These were shot with my JVC GY-HM200 4K camera for the master shot and b-roll with my old Sony FX-1 HDV camera. Lots of tweaking with the primary color corrector to get them in same universe. Edited in 720p, so I was able to use the 4K master shot to create other shots and also do pushes, pulls and pans from the master shot in post.

                  Comments appreciated.

                  • Yeah, I fully agree. I tried that and this was the best I could do, but then I am not a professional colorist. I think the easier solution seeing as the colorimetry of these two cameras is so different is to trade the FX1 for another GY-HM200. Problem is, today this is just more of a hobby than a money making business so it is hard to justify that.

                    • Some nice cuts, angles and framing.

BTW, Lew. Did you record the audio, was the reverb the room acoustics or post applied.

                      • Thanks for the kind comments. Really appreciated.

The audio setup was mic on the left channel and direct output of the guitar pedals on the right (which also fed his amp). The pedals had their own echo.

The mic was recorded flat but we added some reverb in post with the Sanford Reverb VST plugin which works great in Edius. The reason for adding the reverb was to match the tapping he does on the guitar with the output of the tapping from the guitar pickup through the pedals which had their own reverb. Both channels were also compressed using George Yohng's W1 VST plugin which is a dead simple but highly effective compressor. Both VST's are free online.

Cool. I only asked about the reverb as I couldn't make out the size of the location and was wondering if it was as big as the reverb had suggested.

I personally wasn't looking at the colour matching, as I was right into the performance. But I thought the cuts really fitted the track tempos, and thought there was a great use of what I assume was post applied movements. If the movements were live, then I'm really jealous :)

In any event, If I were the artist I'd be really happy with what you've done. These are really good promo pieces for the artist.
