  • Rusty - you're invited any time! And Lew - my wife and I have been canal-boating the canals of Europe (France, England, Holland, Belgium and Italy) for 25 years (just the 2 of us on our own boat (rented!)), and we're putting a compilation together as well. I make a 2-hour video travelogue of each trip, and will do my best to chop out the best parts of each for the composite. I look forward to seeing yours when I have a spare hour. Sounds gorgeous!

        • Fran - do you know what the settings are on your wife's iPhone for capturing that beautiful video. My wife's iPhone video is jerky (electronically - not her hand ! ! !). and EDIUS doesn't like it too well. Your's is quite smooth and looks terrific.
          Thanks,

Anton, I passed along your Hi5. I've tried to make her aware of the perils of vertical video and apparently I succeeded (grin).

She's shooting an iPhone 6 using the stock camera app with default settings. The 6 seems to have bumped up video quality a noticeable bit.

                        • Spent some time relaxing near Highlands NC in the Nantahala National Forest. Shot using a Panasonic GH4 camera, and the following lenses: Panasonic 14-45, 45-175, and Olympus 60mm macro as well as a 75-300. Other equipment used was a Benro S-6 tripod and Glideshot jib. Edited with Edius 5.51 and encoded with TMPGEnc 4.

                          • Mark, your video is absolutely gorgeous. Not only are your choices magnificent, but your GH4 certainly lives up to its reputation. Beautiful footage and crazy good editing. Many thanks for sharing.

Equipment well noted - but may I ask, since this is the best footage I've yet seen on Vimeo, what your settings were in Mpg4 to upload this to Vimeo with such startling quality. And no picture jerkiness, which is a sometimes trait of Vimeo.

Thanks Alan, I am glad that you liked it. Moving water scenery was shot at .mov 1080 59.94p 200 Mbps, ALL-INTRa. To gain high detail closeups of critters I recorded at .mov 29.97p 4K 100Mbps and converted to 1080p using Edius AVCHD converter. All clips are edited on an Edius 29.97 project setting timeline so I can get good slow motion on the moving water scenes.

Once editing is complete I export as a Canopus lossless file which is very large and bring into TMPGEnc 4. I encode for Vimeo using Windows Media 9 which to my eye better preserves the colors, motion and effects. Here are photos of my encoding settings.

This 3D Youtube video is the first segment of a Bahamas underwater project. It has three chapters: Sharks, Fish Schools & Coral Gardens, & Shipwrecks, and runs about a half hour. It's designed to be a mood piece set to music with the goal of it being a end of the day, relax, put your feet up and escape into it thing. It was shot with a 3 camera rig which included 2 Gopro Dual Hero 3D housings each set at a different FOV mounted on top of a JVC-TD1 housing. I used Edius 7.42 for the editing.

This was shot in June 2015 in the Nassau area. Stuart Cove's was the dive operator. It has 3 chapters: Sharks, Fish & Coral Gardens, & Shipwrecks. I used t...
