        • Sony FDR-AX100 initial test.

This is a video of my first shots with an AX100 and my new shoulder rig.

I have only just got this camera and found that none of my cards were fast enough for either 4K or XAVC S. But seeing as I couldn't wait to get out testing I decided to take advantage of the scenario and test for the worse case scenario instead.

These shots are only at 1080 and AVC, not 4K or XAVC S. There is no stabiliser switched on. There is a mixture of various uses of the auto and manual functions. There is no editing except for a fade in and out. There is no post processing of colour or anything in Edius. It's basically warts and all, so everything is left in.

There have been a number of critisisms about this camera, suggesting that tests usually don't show the bad side of this camera. This test edit is quite the opposite, and none of the shots have been cherry picked or post stabilised. The final MP4 is only 8Mbit, while this is not particularly bad it is in the very low end for HD.

The edit is quite long and boring, but does give a real good idea of the camera on a tripod, shoulder rig and handheld. I am talking all the way through it, as this is what I do when testing to remind myself on playback as to what I was doing plus I already had in mind that I was going to be playing these shots to others.

Here are pictures of the rig.

If you don't know the difference between Azimuth and Asimov, then either your tapes sound bad and your Robot is very dangerous. Kill all humans...... Or your tape deck won't harm a human, and your Robot's tracking and stereo imagining is spot on.

Is your Robot three laws safe?

Here are two of my Edius 7 videos to date:

                          https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...h0g15K78kDtKKU

I'm a newbie and am still learning, and would appreciate any helpful feedback or advice. The setting was less than ideal, but we had little choice and did the best we could. The white wall was a disaster in retrospect, and I kind of stumbled onto the idea of turning it into a slide show. Other thoughts on how to overcome it? Thanks!

                            • Edius 7 post produced track movements from 4K/UHD to HD

This is E7 re-framing and moving locked off 4K/UHD footage in a HD project. There are a couple of locked off HD shots. All editing, colouring and movements are done with the standard E7 demo, no extra external or plugin processors. Final delivery is HD 2.35:1 YUY2.

Having just completed a number of NLE workflow tests for 4K/UHD editing, in software mode. E7 has many practical advantages over the competition and not least of all speed. Although E7 is perfect for up-to 10Bit 4K production. It is superb for HD productions sourced from 4K and UHD.
