  • The only thing I don't like about it is the fact the Go Pro is outside of the case and exposed. The cost isn't that bad. Did you have to retrofit anything on the quad to get the stabilizer to fit?

    • also, is there a lens for the GoPro that does not cause that bending distortion, because such major distortion would not be excepted by myself or my customers

      • It is a fixed lens and I take out the distortion with either AE or the New Blue Lens correction filter. There are also different settings for lens view for width within the camera.
The latest firmware update allows you to use a supported Android or Iphone/ipad
device to control the camera as well as playback and delete files. This is a very nice feature.
In some cases the distortion works to your advantage. I usually shoot in 2.7k wide or 1080 60p narrow. The narrow setting reduces the amount of bend.
At least with the 2.7k I can zoom on the image and get a decent picture.

These are shot in 2.7 (2704x1524) and I did not fix the lens issue. The fact the horizon line is straight makes the difference.

        • Hi Guys.
The gimbal is made just for the Phantom quadcopter.
Comes as a kit, then bolt it to the Quad, power it and away you go.
Then you can add in camera tilt which takes some tweaking.
          Its pretty good quality.

Yes the camera is naked, its all about keeping the weight down.
Have shot in 2.7k but you only get 25p.
50P is much better and you can then slow stuff down too.

Here is another crazy one I did yesterday around the park.

          • 50/60p is excellent if you are not taking the distortion out. But when you take the distortion out you loose a good chunk of a 1920x1080 image because of the zoom factor....even if set to narrow.
Hopefully, they can add a faster frame rate to the 2.7 setting with a narrow option. As far as slowing things down, Twixtor does that quite well.
You are definitely using it where it is quite useful. This tool allows for showing houses in the most convenient way.

              • Quadcopter Gimabl Test

Here is what mounting a gimbal on a good Quadcoper looks like. The little Phantoms are good too for tight / slow situations but fall down when its windy or at speed due to too much vibration and stuff. The performance of this Quad is amazing. 13 minute flight times are no problems.

Tested the raw video hack for the 5D mkII. The resulting files are sequential 14bit 444 Raw DNGs which I conformed and exported from Da Vinci Resolve then edited and final grade in Edius.

Much better to color correct than highly compressed h264. :)

                      • Excellent your control of the quadcopter if that is what it was is very good. In another age shots like that would have cost thousands of pounds. I recently purchased a new Blue Fx extra which takes ou the bend when using very wide wide lenses very neatly. Although your piece hardly suffers from it really.

I fly 90 size 3D remote control helicopters (that’s a rotor disk of 1.6m) so flying my Hexacopter (six rotors) is quite easy.
Ill look into the blue fx.
This was one I did a few weeks ago going down a river, quite scary when you’ve got £2000.00 worth of equipment flying over water.

No I didn’t use any camera stabilization in the edited.
It’s a upgraded DJI 550 with a Naza GPS Flight Controller, GoPro3 black camera, with a 2 Axis Brushless Gimbal, the gimbal keeps the camera level regardless of what the Hexacopter is doing, I have the ability to pan the camera down or up from my transmitter. The picture from the camera is transmitted down to a 200mm monitor so I can position it, this is called FPV firstPersonView.
