  • MyMusic for Edius

I've downloaded/registered for this service. I've had a quick scan of the music available in the various categories.
Can anyone explain what advantage there is in this service with its high licence fee and project restrictions given the large number of independent music producers' CDs available with excellent tracks which can be purchased on a single licence fee/reproduce many times basis and at reasonable prices?

I cannot argue on the merits of one offer as opposed to another. Its itunes with an edius flavour and people will either buy it or they won't. It could be another Beatles or another Edsel who knows. My point is although I registered and entered the code I only have access to two of the free tracks. Did anybody else have the same? plus when I clicked on the download straight into the current Edius project nothing happened. Its 99% finger trouble by me I am sure if it is not then its hardly an auspicious start for Edius Music.

To me, it looks to be 'needle drop' rather than total unlimited buyout. there is a difference and sometimes the buyout music just doesn't quite have the 'sound' you may be looking for.

also you have a much better chance of finding a 'sound-a-like' for the client who wants music that sounds like a popular song.

as has been said in the past, it another tool for the toolbox.

I think Sonicfire Pro 5 is a much better deal and will stay with that.

MyMusic for Edius will have significant difficulty beating SonicFire Pro (SmartSound). I certainly won't be changing.... I just wish that GV had used that energy in producing a SFP plug-in instead (a whole lot less energy in fact)
Intel Quad Core Extreme 3GHz/12M, 4Gb RAM, 2Tb Hot-swap (ARAID), NVIDIA GeoForce 8800 GTS, Edius Broadcast 4.61 / Edius 5.5, Procoder 3, DVDit Pro HD, Sonicfire Pro 5, Mercalli, Vitascene, Adorage. TwinPact 100, Pegasus, TMPro. VirtualDub

I don't understand this statement. This is simply a third party app that was included with Edius. No effort on GV's part other than the normal negotiations and paperwork involved with this. Smartsound (Sonic Fire) has also been included before. This is more for a customized score or piece of music that would generally be less expensive and certainly less of a headache dealing with ASCAP. I personally don't see much of a market with Edius users.

The focus at GV seems pretty clear to me...
It's all about licensure and intended use.
I'm currently dipping into the waters of broadcast video and they are very fussy about covering their assets when it comes to content.
I agree, there's virtue on both sides of the fence(s), but there's no one complete solution.
This part of E5 appears to be intended for those who intend to keep their (proverbial) noses clean.

Hmmm. The web site I looked at is making very clear use of the GV logo. That's what led me to understand it was a GV product (and the website is using the edius name, to a certain degree).
And yes, Smartsound might have been included previously, but did it have native support (i.e. a plugin), or was it just bundled? (it's been bundled with Premier too, but with native support).
There's talk of a plugin for the product on the website. Does that presumably mean native support for this new product?

I can understand the confusion. AIUI this is just a customized design. Here is what runs it https://www.mymusicsource.com/index.aspx

                          Smartsound was just bundled.

It's technically not a GV product. It's just bundled with and plugs in to EDIUS and has a site aimed toward EDIUS users.
