It was happening only on that sequence.
Thanks for the head's up on capturing the last frame etc.. I do have a habit of setting it up to **** in and letting it get on with it. Come back in an hour and get on with it too.. will watch that in future.
Thanks everyone..

Fatal crash during export to AVI

this can also happen due to corrupt frames
it is easy to get corrupt frames if you let a DV tape capture until the footage runs out, this can cause the last few frames to become corrupt

When we get crashes like that it is usually due to a dodgy effect. Is it rendering that section ok?

Try exporting only that sequence. It has to be something corrupted there.

Have you tried just making an AVI of the dodgy sequence.
My thoughts are this is a corrupt AVI or a Rob eluded to a VST or similar, had one a few weeks back that always corrupted the encode to M2v in the same place

I'd take a good look for anything unusual near the end of that segment.
(It is probably worth duplicating that segment first.)
Especially, things like third-party audio or video plug-ins. Try removing anything unusual- or very complicated- and then exporting. You might be able to pinpoint the exact bit. It could also, just possibly, be a corrupt media file.

Fatal crash during export to AVI
For a couple of days I have been experiencing a fatal crash during export to avi.
I have a project with 20 sequences on display. The export crash is happening on the 18th sequence. It does not happen on any of the previous 17 or the last two.
It crashes at the 91% done mark every time.
When I say crashes, a failure message comes up and the programme ceases to run, a microsoft error window opens to enable me to report the error to microsoft (wouldn't it be good if Edius did the same). The ccrash also stops the mouse and keyboard operating and I have to preset system reset to re-boot it.
While running, the machine is disconnected from the inetenet, all other programmes are closed including av so all resources are given to Edius.
I have Belarc advisor installed if someone knows what all the results mean...
Thanks
