For that I would just use the MPEG2 HD (elementary mpeg stream) and then use whatever authoring software to author, set average to 24147kbit/s and 40000kbit/s for max, audio at 394kbit/s.

Thanks for that advice again Khoi.

Just out of curiosity, which of the two ways would produce the better quality bluray,
straight from the timeline or going the MPEG2 HD route. Or would one be just as clear/sharp as the other.

      Thanks again.

Which way are you talking about?
This is straight from Edius HD timeline to MPEG2 HD using elementary stream exporter, if the project is over 2 hrs. long then I use AVCHD for codec in the exporter.

Tony, I'm in the EXACT same situation as you. Just about to make my first couple of weddings from HD footage.
I've given the customer an SD version to preview and then will produce the Blu-ray version in Encore 4. Encore is great once you get the hang of it. I've been using DVDWS2 until now.

I will be using AVC as all my weddings are 6-9hrs long. Many people here say that AVC is 'better' and has less artifacts, but as mentioned earlier in this thread, if the project is over 2hrs, use AVC anyway.

I will make the AVC in a few days time, but for the SD DVD, I put all the HD sequences together in a new sequence and applied a Sharpness filter to all sequences, set the sharpness to 16 and exported an SD MPEG2 straight from the HD timeline. The quality was fantastic. I rarley had horizontal lines in the footage so didn't need to use Anton's Virtual dub method. Use Antons method if you have alot of horizontal artifacts as it works great.

When you say 'can you make the blu-ray better', are you saying that you're not happy with the quality of your footage after burning onto BD?
Is your source material clear and sharp?

Sorry I meant 3 hrs. long then I use the AVCHD, less than 3 hrs. I always use MPEG2 HD VBR.

Hi Raja, no, you know the way,... say, in procoder 3, you have a high quality setting and then the master setting or infact a speed setting, well going the master 2pass setting, this would produce a better quality SD DVD.

I was just wondering, regarding my 2hr 8min HD footage, which method would produce a better quality Blu-Ray disc, one from the Edius timeline with "burn to disc" or exporting the HD footage as MPEG2 HD or AVCHD and then into encore4, thats all i was curios about.

              Thanks all again.

Ok, I understand. You would always want to select the the highest quality setting in all encodes (time permitting), as that would produce the best results.
I use the Edius 5.11 built in exporter.

It is the first screen that pop up when you open Encore/new project, if you open it already then you can change it at File/project settings/codec.

are you trying to burn Blu-ray on a DVD?

if burning to BD-R it can be faster than burning a DVD depending on duration, because BD-R only needs to burn the exact file size and no more, whereas DVD needs to fill the magic 1GB even if only a 30 sec TV ad

in my case, a typical corporate goes for 4-6min and it burns in 1 min to BD-R or BD-RE
