your MP3 files must be VBR as opposed to CBR. Since 5.01 VBR is not supported

    Either

down convert Edius back to 5.0 or convert the mp3 files into something else that is supported ideally WAV 16 or 24 bit 48KHz uncompressed

Edius can use VBR and CBR .mp3 and .wmv, but because the bitrate in CBR files is (well) constant they will work better. But not great.

Not all .mp3's are created equally. It sounds like you may have some of those. If Edius will not open them, there's usually a good reason.

Open your files in Audacity and save as .wav and all your dreams will come true!

Best to convert them to WAV 48Khz.

              So they won't even import?
              Good thing, they're trouble anyway.
Maybe I should read the manual. :~)
