  • Edius 5.11 Aspect Ratio, Speed Control Question

    Hi all,
Two quick quirks. I've upgraded to Edius 5.11

It seems to me before (unless I'm having a senior moment) that if I imported a 16x9 clip into a 4x3 project, it would correctly display as letterboxed 16x6 within the 4x3 frame. Now it just displays as 4x3 pan-and-scan--meaning the left and right edges are cut off, and the video is full frame 4x3. I can to into video layout and manually reconfigure, but before it was always automatic. Video properties are correctly set, and if I change the project settings to 16x9, the clip displays properly.

Also, has anybody had a problem with speed control? If I try to alter the speed of an audio only clip, I can only alter it once....then the speed control is grayed out. The only way to change this is to roll back the project to before the incorrect speed control.

In other words, I used to be able to alter a music clip to, say, 101%, then say, no, back to 100% using speed control, no problem. Now, if I alter to 101%, I have to do Control Z to roll back the entire project. This is very time consuming when trying to find the exact amound of speed up/down I might need.

Any ideas on either? I'm doing a project with extensive aspect ratio changes and audio speed changes and it's getting very weird!

Is this a new project created in v5.11, or a project that was started in a previous version?

The speed issue has been documented by a few others as well.

the "layout tool" have a know bug in 5.11

the only workaround (for more than one clip) that I found, and post on a german forum is:

create 3 customice layout-effects in a seperate folder in the effektpalette
mark all clips they need a change >> drag the the wishing effect (i.e. Fit Height ) to the timeline
and all marked clips (i.e. 33 clips) will change with one step.

      create a new folder in the effect-palette (i. e. named "layout_customice" )
      mark clip_1 >> [ F7] >> set it to "Fit Height >> OK

move with the mouse the >Video Layout (clip_1)< from the information-palette to the effect-palette >> folder "layout_customice" >>
rename the effect and give him a description-text what you like, over the properties-windows (context menue)

ditto with "Fit Width" and "Original size"

I hope, my pictures are better as my "gibberish" english........

        thanks

Thsnks for the hints/updates. It was an older project in Edius (5.01) that I upgraded to 5.11, so when I get a moment to breathe I'll try everything in a brand new 5.11 project.

Hope that GV will soon address the speed control glitch.

I did a similar work-around to re-establish proper aspect ratios.

Thanks guys...you're the greatest! Dave Ice

David, I'm batting in the dark here, because I'm miles away from my editing computer, but has by chance your default layout tool setting been overwritten by a center cut? You should be able to setup the letterbox and save as default. I think I've accidently overwritten the default before.

Pardon my senior moment if not correct.

sorry, but it a know bug in 5.11

you can not save (in the layout-tool) to default
you can not save (in the layout-tool) to a individual (named) setting (i.e. crop or whatever)

if you does one from the both things ...you shot the "Setting.esp" corrupt
              path: ......Anwendungsdaten\Canopus\EDIUS\5.00\Setting
in the .esp it is on : "//edius/setting:setting/pluginsetting:pluginsetting/pluginsetting:CanopusCo .Ltd.VideoLayouter"
              (Child Element) ....pluginsetting Default....

you have only above workaround....... a lot of (advanced) users confirming this issue here in german, on different OS ...XP and Vista....

Thanks. I might not have tried that in 5.1. I will try it when I get back.
