The problem in this workstation probably was that it is sometimes used for GAMES, even tough they are not supposed to, and those darn things can change ALL kinds of things!

I never knew changing the colour display depth from 32 bits to 16 bits should affect ANY application (except, maybe Photoshop). Anyway, good for you then. And we now know of another possible area to check for if people start reporting funny problems like this one.

    Whew...
Been wasting way too much time on this but thought of offering the solution, as follows:
the display settings for the Radeon card had been changed to 16 bit unbeknown to me...
Changing them to 32 bit took care of the problem!!

You do use Imaginate with the latest available patch right? What is the version number of your Imaginate?

Tried the repair and actually uninstalled and re-installed Edius but the problem persists..
I think that Imaginate is creating a bad file because neither Media Player, WMP nor even Win Movie Maker is accepting it... VLC PLayer however DOES play it.
Further I see in GSpot that it indicates a possible problem with its beginning...
Have since re-rendered it in MSDV, and Uncompressed and the problem persists..
I know we used to import the IVP source data directly into Edius back in the 2.0 days.. I'll try this again and perhaps it will solve it..

    Deeter2,

Another thing - there is NO need to render Imaginate output into video format to import into EDIUS. You could just import the Imaginate "source" data (IVP, I think) - and EDIUS will handle it from there. A much faster workflow than having to render the source into DV and then import that DV into EDIUS.

Yup - Can you try REPAIR the EDIUS install as Brandon suggested?

Canopus HQ codec is completely separate from the Canopus DV codec... Sounds like somehow the Canopus DV codec got corrupted somehow. Or perhaps if you have a ton of codecs, its priority needs to be changed.

I'd try a repair install of EDIUS.

Canopus DV (and HQ) is also listed in the list under Properties

The video was just made by Imaginate 2.0 (File, Render, video) using the Canopus DV preset 720x480 NTSC 48Kz... It plays fine in the other workstations but not on this one...
Also tried Exporting from Imaginate 2.0 in Uncompressed RGB with Alpha (huge file, of course) and Edius does not play it either...
The weird thing is that if I click on another open window (ie: TaskMan) it shows that one frame!!

I'll look in Device mgr and report in a bit

started a topic HQ removes prior Codec?

    HQ removes prior Codec?

Got a problem with a workstation that was upgraded to Edius 5 from 2.5
Ever since it has been used to process exclusively HDV footage with no problems.
Had to edit a DV format video and alas! the video does not play neither in Edius, nor WMP, Media Player, etc.. I suspect that the HQ codec overwrote the Canopus DV codec but this is also happening with MS DV codec as well.
Weird thing is that if I click on a NON-edius window (ie: task mgr) a single frame of the video shows in the preview window...
    Any ideas??
    TIA
Working...
