NO. Just use Vegas 9 in 32bit mode. You can use HDV or HQ from Edius. I didn't bother upgrading to Vegas 9 as it had nothing in it that I would use and will wait to see what is in Vegas 10!!! Edius will export HQ faster than HDV but Vegas will encode HDV to Bluray faster than it will encode HQ to MPEG HD for DVD Architect. I see no difference in quality so sometime use HDV sometime HQ.

Yeah, not having a thunking layer for 32-bit codecs is a drag. It's going to be a problem, especially with older codecs like Indeo and Cinepak that may never see a 64-bit version.

Right because vegas 8.1 is 64 bit native- I understand.

That's because HQ doesn't have a 64 bit codec so its an issue with GV/Canopus not Vegas. HQ works fine with Vegas 8.0 it just doesn't work with Vegas 8.1 which is exclusively 64 bit.

    Hi Ron,

Yes, I saw you did dance concert.

I tired TMPGec 4 as that was supposed to do DVDs & Blu-rays, but you couldn't change settings and keep all the menus & links, which you can in DVDA.
I have been quite pleased with it until this project, certainly not as quick as DVDLabpro, but it worked O.K. until this project.

Funny though, I had a similar issue with these big projects with DVDLabpro 2, it would do weddings all day, but refuse to finish compiling a dance concert, so for the last two years i had to go back to version 1 for my big projects.

Hopefully a Vegas/DVDA solution will work reliably with a Canopus HQ file!

    Cheers,

    Vaughan

Adobe Encore works fine for me for making Blu-ray discs, and it only takes a few clicks to also produce SD discs from the same project setup. If you have any old version of Adobe Premiere you may be able to get the Premiere/Encore upgrade for ~$150-200.

Hi Vaughan, we obviously do very similar things. I just finished a 2 hour 26 min recital with 45 dances with 6 choreographers. Turned out to be 10 menus in DVDlab pro for the SD version. 8 menus for the Bluray version. I am getting more elaborate with the Bluray all the time but still do not make for anyone other than myself. I agree though next year it may be worthwhile.

It's very strange. My Firecoder Blu video files get accepted and passed thru by DVDA 5.0. The auido needs encoding though.

    Thanks guys for your suggestions.

I have tried both HQ and MPEG HD files but no avail.

This big projects have failed before in DVDlabpro with no rhyme or reason either. They include a playlist for every dance item, 38 in all, plus 1st concert item playlist, 2nd concert item playlist and a Play All Item link!

So in DVDA I had to link the main file 40 times! with separate "ins" and "outs".
This is why I am limited in my authoring software, I need to be able to force an output at a given chapter point.

Anything can go wrong!, but it's all done and delivered O.K. in DVD's, so job's finished, but the teacher wanted a copy in HD, so I was experimenting!

Sometimes you just have to do it again, but Vegas is on the way so I'll wait and encode in that!

Hopefully by November/December, our main concert season, I'll have it sorted out and can offer Blu-ray copies.

    Thanks again

    Vaughan

Vaughan if you got Vegas with the upgrade I find the easiest is to export a HQ file from Edius and use that in Vegas ( not the 64 bit version only the 32bit version), set markers and name then export to the Bluray preset ( whichever is appropriate) then export audio ( again if you have room LPCM or AC3) name the same and DVD Architect will put them together for you.
I use the same HQ file for either Vdub or TMPGenc for the SD version.

    Hi Vaughan,

This error message has been reported on the DVDA forum a few times. I have had the same error once, and with one file only. All other files encoded by Edius in exactly the same way did not cause this error message. In the optimisation screen DVDA tells you that the file will not be recompressed, so it is blu-ray compliant.

I contacted Sony tech support for this, was allowed to upload the problem file to their ftp-server (took quite some time!), but they did not find a cause, or at least no cause was mentioned to me. Their statement is that anything not encoded with Vegas or DVDA cannot be guaranteed. I solved it by exporting the problem file to Canopus HQ, and let DVDA do the rendering to MPEG-2 for this file only.

So I expect this is a problem of DVDA, not of your settings.

    Thanks Plekkie,

Looks like I'll have to do some more test MPEGS from Edius.

Mark, there's nothing in the naming and in "about" that says "studio" once you do the upgrade.

My compilation failed for the third time, so looks like I'll have to start again.

    ERROR MESSAGE:
Stream/00009.m2ts STATUS: TS WRAPPER, dll;; proc. thread main; Failed to read ES file. The ES file may be shorter than the size decribed in the MUI.

    Have no idea!

    CHeers,
    Vaughan

I don't have Vegas, but have you or anyone else managed to get compliant files into Architect straight from Edius without re-encoding for Blu-ray?
I am using DVDA 5 without re-rendering for video. I.e. I export to MPEG-2 HD 1920x1080 25 fps directly from Edius Full HD timeline.

Dolby Digital exported by Edius is not Blu-ray compliant. You will need the Dolby Digital Pro settings from Vegas, or let DVDA render from a linear PCM file from Edius (= what I do).

Edit: If I use movie menus, I export from Edius in Canopus HQ fine, because menus are always re-rendered by DVDA
