Strange my PDS files are always transparent. I have helped a lot of people with this problem and usually it turns out that the background was not transparent in photoshop to begin with. It was either black or white.
Make sure you really have a transparent background. Do you see grey and white blocks as your background in photo shop?

If the *. PSD file has been exported directly by another third are not Photoshop for example: "Corel Draw" might have compatibility problems. Solution: Open the *. PSD file in the Adobe Photoshop and save new or replace with the same length and then to really insert into the timeline in Edius back with transparent background, success.
Just got caught on this, imported an eps file into Photoshop. Yes its in layers, but no, background not transparent in Edius, Edius reads it as a flat file.
Ding! Light bulb moment, original eps file for printing, in CMYK, change file mode to RGB and save PSD, and then Edius supports layers just fine.
