  • HD Encode.. backwards and upsidedown

    Hey all -
How do I get my HD file off the Edius timeline to use ?
I know with my SD files I could just check the MSDV ( or something like that) box when outputting..I dont have that option with HD-

can anyone tell me what they are outputing to SPECIFICALLY in edius to make the movie play right side up and frountways ... thanks sooo much!

What do you want to use it for? IF you edit in HD you can still output in DV to MSDV codec if that is what you want. They are all still there to choose. You can make SD DVD straight off the timeline if that is what you want and for v5.11 you can even make a Bluray.
This is my normal workflow, others will be different.
I edit on a HDV 1440x1080i timeline. I output Canopus HQ fine file. I take into Vegas Pro8 for final audio and to set markers ( named for authoring in DVD Architect) render from Vegas to Bluray preset MPEG2 HD 1440x1080 VBR ( 18mbps min, 25mbps ave, 30mbps max), render WAV( or AC3) file from Vegas bring both into DVD Architect and author Bluray. For SD I have several choices depending on video. Take HQ file into TMPGenc4 Express and encode for MPEG2 SD widescreen. Exchange files in DVD architect and make SD DVD both Bluray and SD DVD have same menus, chapters etc. If there are lots of diagonal lines with panning and zoom in the HD version I now take into Vdub to do the scaling for SD then still use TMPGEnc4 Express for encode to MPEG2 etc. If I am just making a SD version or there are lots of sub menues I will use DVDLab Pro 2 to author as DVD Architect has a problem with "return to last menu" if there are more than 2!!!! it will always go to the last sub menu rather than the last menu used.
IF you are happy with the Edius choices then you can render to any of these choices from the timeline too.

      Hi Sheila,

Upside-down and backwards sounds like an export to a Flash format.

If you want to go out to HDV tape, use the HDV exporter and then use the MPEG TS Writer to export your new .m2t file to tape.

        Umm....

I want to render out to file... I start with HQ files that are edited on the timeline.. and want to render out my movie... I have it on the timeline at 1920x1080...
#1 I want to render it out to the same size.. and a viewable format - in other words call it up to play in like Windows media but not a WMV- as an AVI- BUT I also want it to be in a generic type of encode- in other words the HQ format is only readable with a Canopus codec... I need to use a more general codec ... like the MSDV ... but for HD...

        does that make sense??

you need to use uncompressed RGB, get plenty of disk space

CanopusHQ and Lossless and DV play upside down in various other software, it is not suitable for sharing

.wmv is available cross-platform if Apple users have the plug-in as .mov is in PC land.

I don't have the hang of the .mov color conversion and have moved away from using it as often as possible. .wmv is faster to encode and looks great at 1920 x 1080.

                Hey Rusty!

Thanks - trying the WMV right now ( tried the uncompresses rgb and it plays in eduis but stops after 3 sec in WMplayer and wouldnt encode on sorenson sq. - actually shut the program right down)
so I want to output to flash (flv) and when I output in canopus HQ, sorenson squeezes it upside down and backwards... and it did this with SD too - but I could check off the Use MSDV codec... and it was fine- now - to output 1920x1080 - I have VERY FEW OPTIONS>...or at least it seems that way -

so - I am encodeing RIGHT NOW to WMV - and my 3 minute trailer is taking 38+ minutes to encode to WMV... GRRR>>> I need encode help!

If you picked 2-pass, you may want to relax for a while...
The second pass is even slower.
