OK, I think I get it now. You NEED to have 8 audio tracks.

I just had two stereo tracks and was assigning A1L-1, A1R-2, A2L -3, A2R-4. I really don't even need to hear the surround tracks--just need to cut them the same as the vid and front audio.

I'll give it a go in a little while.

I'm on NX, the only 8 channel preset is OHCI DVCPro HD and AVC Intra, there are no 8 channels for 1920X1080 or 1440X1080 nor NHX-EX DVCPRO HD. I have been importing audio into these preset that has 8 channels and it is a pain.
On another note, I only have a stereo file to create 5.1 and so it is fake, but this way my client don't have to switch their receiver to matrix to get all channels going, the less button push the better for them, that is why I'm doing this, my other work around is to use ProCoder, it will make 5.1 out of stereo file, but ProCoder it slow as a turtle, but let say I have 6 discreet channels, how do you assign front left, center, front right, suround left....? In the mapping area, there are only left and right.

With the Hd storm there are 8 channel projects for:
    AVCHD
    Infinity
    HD D5
    AVC Intra 100
    HDcam-SR
    HDV
    AVC Intra 50
    HDCAM
    XDCAM
    DVCPROHD

    What are you missing?

yes. you have to map the the hard-out for channels.

I would also use dedicated channels for my audio.

Go in to the seqence tab. Sequence settings and map the hard out for the audio channels then when you export you will have a multichannel wav or 5.1 decdicated audio.

    I just checked the project settings and it says I have 8 audio channels. I only have 4 assigned. A1 = 1/2 A2 = 3/4.

    I'm missing something, somewhere...

You can export multichannel wav from a multichannel project.
The only thing is that you have to use a project which is multichannel out enabled. For 5.1 you have to use a 8 channel project.

    started a topic Audio Questions

    Audio Questions

I just bought me a Zoom H2 audio recorder. It will record surround audio via two stereo wav files. There is also a marker function--hit a button and it drops a marker into the file.

I was trying to determine a workflow and ran into some obstacles.

First, it doesn't seem that Edius will do anything with the markers? I see them in Vegas and Sound Forge but not in Edius.

Second, Mike Downey assured me that I could work with these surround files and export multi-channel audio. I poked around a bit and can't find a way to do it. Some of the export options--AC-3 for example, promise 5.1 on the configuration page but when you go to actually save the file, stereo only.

I was expecting that I could export a multi-channel wav but no go.
Working...
