Cannot import .avi file

Can anyone please help me figure this problem out? I have imported several .avi files from my XL1s. But when i tried to import them into edius, the .avi files cannot be read. please help.

Can the files be played in Windows Media Player? What did you use the capture the video? Did you save the file in Microsoft DV AVI format?

This doesn't make sense. Did you capture them and if so how?
