  • capture through Edius 5

i would like to know when i capture HDV video thruough Edius 5 -> HDV capture (OHCI interface), is the captured video fomat must be Canpous HQ avi format? is Canpous HQ codec will compress the captured video and get a video quality downgrade. i've such a question is because when i have some video clips with fast motion (eg: birds flying, insects clapping wings), i looks good when i play on the tape. but after i captured into Canpous HQ avi, the quality obviously have been downgraded in the "fast motion parts" is there method i can get the video exactly the same as on the HDV tape?

    many thanks!

Do you capture via "Generic HDV input"? You should see several options for framesize, framerate and CODEC. Make sure you choose the settings corresponding to your footage.

If you want you can capture in MPEG-TS. However, there should be no compression and/or downgrading by the Canopus HQ CODEC. You will get big files though.

difference between Canopus HQ and M2TS (native HDV)

what's the advantage to capture HDV format to Canopus HQ? the file size for HQ is quite large in compare with M2TS (native HDV). i've tried to compare the quality of the video capture to HQ and M2TS (from my HDV tape source), but see not a big difference, but big difference in file size. is there anything i'll miss / lost if i capture to M2TS?

sorry for my silly questions since i'm so confuse with these video format.

      many thanks!

Quality is pretty much the same. HQ makes it much easier on the computer when you edit in Edius which translates to more realtime.

can i say that if the computer is powerful enough, M2TS is better than HQ (in good balance between quality and saving file size?)

          many thanks again!
