  • OHCI DV capture isn't registering

Ok - I have used the OHCI firewire ports on my machine several times but today I hook up a canon XHA1 via firewire and can't seem to capture. I select it as input and it flashes video for a second or two and then goes grey. A couple of times it began capture and during capture (after 10 seconds or so) it went to grey.

I changed firewire cable - no luck
I then changed cameras to capture off another XHA1 - still no luck

    Anyone had this problem before?

Oh yeah - Edius 5.01 on a dual Quad machine.

    Thanks,
    Mat Cain

Are you using the OHCI - DV capture preset, or the OHCI - HDV capture preset?
Also, if the camera has an "automatic" Firewire output mode, it's best to set it to a fixed (always DV or always HDV) mode if possible.

I'm now using Edius 6.03 and I am in HDV mode (not automatic) and capturing in HDV preset. Im on a windows 7 64bit machine. I am still having the same problem capturing with the XHA1. I might get a frozen frame of video on the screen but the moment I hit capture it goes gray. I have adjusted the settings for the preset several times and yes I have a 1440 by 1080 HDV project selected. I toyed with it yesterday and managed to capture 1 tape - I then tried to capture a second (without changing settings) and back to the same problem. I have swapped out cables and even went to a second XHA1 with hopes to solve the problem but no luck. I need to get to work but the I sit here with tapes that I cant capture - anyone have any ideas?

      Thanks,
      Mat

Are you using the new or legacy IEEE 1394 driver?

Legacy Drivers.... Am I using them?

Legacy drivers? Am I using them? I don't even know what they are. Can anyone help me figure out how to get them and get going again?

                Legacy drivers - same problem

I followed the step by step process on Anton's page and changed to the Legacy drivers. I restarted and reset everything to make sure it all matched up and the same problem exists. I have changed out cables and cameras - out put from auto to HDV and still I get just a glimpse of frozen video on the screen but is goes to gray as soon as I select record.

Oh - I also checked the driver to make sure I did it right - it showed that the legacy driver was the current driver.

                Any other ideas?

How about checking that it still can capture from other cameras? The idea that this failure is restricted to one brand/model camera is really confusing.

Still another thought: You state select "record" You should select "capture."

This might be a daft question, but is the HDV preset the same as the HDV tape that was recorded, i.e. the camera was not set to 24F or 30F was it?

Same Problem: Canon XHA1 won't talk to Edius 6.07

My firewire preset matches exactly the format of the HDV tape...1440x1080.

When I turn on the XHA1 I hear the computer beep like it's connected a new device. A dialog box pops up and asks for Reel No. "UserBit is used as a Reel No." is checked.

But the transport controls in the player window remain grayed out. Can't get camera started. No capture.

I installed the legacy 1394 driver as per Anton's recommendation: http://www.videoproductions.com.au/h...re-driver.html but still no joy.

The Firewire cable is new and Edius captures HDV perfectly when connected to my Sony HVR-Z1U.

                          What else should I check?

                          Thanks.

Does your Canon registered tape play on your Sony HVR ?
If it's OK you can capture from your Sony.
