It should be -- I have had no problem capturing 100Mbps DVCProHD to both Firewire 400 and USB 2 drives using DV Rack 2.1 HD.

Thanks guys: I sent the info to Ashley at Guy Graphics who is building the nie machine. I want to get around the long capture times. Most of my projects are about 3 hours of raw footage and that means more than 3 hours to get the footage into the computer. I think I could capture with my laptop but I want to get the footage into the workstation that is going to do the final edit.

Besides I don't know if an external HD set up would be fast enought to capture HD.

If your Vaio has express, you should be able to insert the card and transfer to either an internal or external drive attached to the laptop. At least I hope so as this is what I need to do whilst shooting.

You'll need to add an ExpressCard reader to your desktop -- this one should work:

Synchrotech manufactures, distributes, and supports PCMCIA, PC Card, ExpressCard, Memory Cards, FireWire, USB, PCIe, and X25 technologies.

Edius and the new Sony HDCAM EX

In anticipation of the new Sony HDCAM EX camera that I saw At NAB I have ordered a new work station. It was time anyway so I went ahead with the order with 4.5 coming out any day now.

My Question : What kind of slot or card reader will I need for the new machine? My Sony Vaio laptop already has it built in. I look forward to avoiding the long capture times. My average project now is about 3 hours of tape that has to be edited down to about 1.5 hours in order to fit comfortably on a SD DVD.

    Thanks

    Ronnie
