Depending on the driver you are using, you may need to choose "all" instead of overlay. Don't know why. I click on the preview window in Edius, then on a blank piece away from the preview. Usually, the driver won't make realtime changes.

When the preview window doesn't show a color change between clicking in it, or the XP task bar, for example, I am happy.

Hope this helps you - it drove me mad for a while. Remember, different nVidia drivers seem to act differently.

Hope I have been clear enough. If not, please post.

    Methuselah,

    You are a bloody legend!

Somebody give that man a prize.

You can't imagine how long I needlessly suffered with this problem.

    Thanks a million.

what you are seeing appears to be normal, it is the same in E4

I use an external monitor so it does not bother me

however, if I would not use an external monitor, than it would bother me

I think E4.5 will have new overlay to eliminate this problem

    Is this the same issue?

    Hey All,
I have been running Edius 1 - 3pro with the same video card (Nvidia FX card) for years with no problem. I started having a system issue, so I reformatted and re-installed everything. I used the latest Nvidia drivers (which are newer than last time). When I go into Edius now, whichever monitor is active is extremely dark. The inactive monitor is fine. When I click in the other monitor, the 'now-inactive' one becomes perfect and the now-active one goes dark. This is the same for OCHI or Storm-RT output. Changing the overlay settings in Edius doesn't seem to make any difference. Should I assume this is due to the new drivers? I am running Edius 3.62.

Should I just make the adjustment in the overlay settings under the advanced tab in the video card properties, or is this a different issue?

Thanks for any help you can provide. I am working on our wedding montage video and our wedding is less than 3 weeks away!!!!!!!

    -David

    Great post!

I only just discovered the overlay settings the other day and would have loved to find this post earlier! :)

Also remember that EDIUS uses overlay (up until now, at least - changes in v4.5...) which has separate color controls, usually in the Advanced (hardware-specific) settings of the Display Properties.

How does it work without the calibration software?
Is there other calibration or color managment (video card) software running?
How is your OCHI or NX output? (I'll guess fine, right?)

Edius preview is different than most software I've used and works best for me with the oldest video drivers. (go figure)

Guest started a topic Preview windows is too dark

    Preview windows is too dark

I use a color calibration software (spyder 2 express) to color calibrate my monitor.

This software generates a color profile which I use for all my applications.

With Sony Vegas and Premiere I have no problems.

But in Edius the preview window is too dark, it's like my monitor default but without the color profile loaded.

When Edius is "thinking" while doing some stessing hard tasks, the preview windows is ok, but then suddenly it go dark.

    Do you know why?
Working...
