  • IR contamination and Edius

Apparently the Sony EX1 and EX3 has an IR contamination problem, were the colour black doesn't always turn out black, its turns out brownish instead.

I was wondering if any EX1/3 owners have used Edius to correct the problem using the colour correction.

    Thanks.
    Tony

      Hi Tony,

It's not really fixable in any colour correction application as it appears more critical on substances such as man made fibres, meaning that everything is correct except say a sweatshirt.

I use a 486 filter on my EX1, which according to some, produces green vignetting, which I have to say after a year of use, I'm not worried about, also who will know what colour sweater a particular person is wearing? if it is slightly brown instead of black - its tricky to fix, but on most occasions not too much of a problem.

Maybe if you shoot with say 2 EX1's and a Z1, producing different colour responses to the same image, then you really have a tricky problem.

There's loads on DVinfo on this subject.

Don't know why all of you are saying this but I found that it is so easy to correct black with Edius using White Balance filter, if it is brown, subtract red.

Aah but its only some things that show up the contamination, its not a general colour change which I agree is easy, but specific items in a shot.

          check these images:

Paul, I was told to get this filter too and according to what I read, it does a good job. It then apparently creates a green vignetting around the edges when fully zoomed out.. but you have used it long enough now and it doesn't seam to cause much of a problem.

I do wedding videos and grooms wear black and it was this that I originally was concerned about.
I waswondering if Edius could correct this somehow.

Thanks for the links, I see the filter really helps.
