Does this exist – the black hole checker!

If you have a large 90min + project with multiple clips, audio, graphics, and the kitchen sink. And you accidentally create a black hole by moving a group and missing a frame or a clip didn’t quite quantise as you thought…….

So to check your project fully without having to sit through an hour plus, you run your super fast ‘Black Hole Checker’ that scans your timeline and flags up any black holes!

I’m sure Edius doesn’t have a function like that but does anything else?
Should I run down to the patenting office?

I usually check the project before I export. Isn't that the same thing? hehehe

Ulead's Media Studio had such a function, it was very handy. The program hasn't been updated in years and supports nothing fancier than HDV.

In Edius, you could zoom in on the timeline at single frame resolution and then Ctrl-Right Arrow to move between edit points. If the clips don't butt up against each other, you've got a gap. Not very automated, but it works.

Yeah I usually check everything before I export it to, have never had a (gap or Black hole) to be sucked into....

if all clips are on the same track, select all and press backspace key, this deletes all black holes

what I do when an edit is finished, I go to start of timeline and zoom to 10 frame mode and keep tapping (page up) button, this will let you quickly check all joints

I think by default it is page down, but I changed mine because up makes more sense

Or you can use A & S to skip between cut/transition points on a selected track to see if there's any empty space.

Im a fan of the A & S keys to check before output - I Just wondered whether it would be a usefull function for GV to put in the melting pot for future versions?

moving clips one frame at a time

Hi Folks,
Newbie on Edius here, so pardon my ignorance....

Is there anyway we can move a clip one frame at a time on the timeline without using the mouse?... some programs like Velocity (ex Velocity man here!) whereby u can select the clip and move it one frame at a time by tapping the cursor keys. It helps greatly while trying to do fine adjustments... and anyway we can put markers within the clip icon itself, not on the timeline bar above? Helps greatly to mark musical beats on the clips.

This is possible, and has been covered on the forums numerous times.

I believe the tips and tricks threads explain how to do this. (requires switching edit modes and using the ',' and '.' keys.

mark clip >> F6 (Trimm Tool) >> press (activate) the "roll" funktion (or look for to activate the shortcut from this funktion)
and nudge the clip per [ , ] or [ . ] 1 frame back or forward
or nudge the clip per [ shift ] + [ , ] or [ shift ] + [ . ] 10 frame back or forward

with the "roll" funktion >> the clip nudge back or forward >> with retention from his original-length

Yeah i would like this function in the days of prem 6.5 you could double click on the work area bar above the time line and it soon showed the black holes any one got a work round but we check everything through takes longer but what about putting it on the wish list

I have never been able to make this work effectively. Although I know how to nudge the clip when I go to check the results by playing the clip (frame accuracy is so necessary), the program seems to take me back out of the "activate" nudge. I then have to activate again and repeat the process.
Has anyone discovered a good method to nudge a clip one frame, then review, then nudge again....review etc. that is fast and doesn't involve intermediate steps?

Opps! figured it out after reading the above post again. Having a "blond" moment I guess. Once in F6 you need to select the "roll' icon. Slick and easy.
