  • HD Thunder and Blackmagic Design Broadcast Converter

I'm looking at getting maximum flexibility with my next editing setup to work with my legacy Betacam SP and other RS422 controlled gear and any HD systems into the future. My REX RTPro has served me well but the current TGV Edius hardware has capability holes for my requirements. Consequently I think the HD Thunder board with it's SD/HD SDI i/o's, RS422 and genlock but together with a bidirectional analogue/SDI converter may provide an adequate system.

BMD have what looks to be a very versatile unit here: http://www.blackmagic-design.com/pro...ers/techspecs/

The HDThunder card will control my legacy decks and presumably ingest/output SD/SDI video after conversion through the BMD rackmount bidirectional converter. Can anyone see any potential pitfalls in this arrangement?

      Hi Nitin,

Your query is really not relevant to this thread or this forum. I feel you would have greater success trying a 3D Studio forum elsewhere. (But thanks for bumping the original query!!!)

Looks Like a GO to me. Have you asked the same question to BlackMagic Design?

Those problem with those devices is that they don't pass more then two channels of embedded audio.

I do not think BetaCam SP being controlled by RS-422 has anything to do with any more than two channels of audio. This is what he is asking of that device.
