Other Edius Forums
I sympthize with burnandreturn. This forum is now only for leading edge Edius users. The activity here seems to me to be dramatically reduced and most of the posts deal with leading edge technology designed to make editing easier, when in fact most of it is designed to sell more hardware and software. Nowdays it's all about change.....rapid change! And that's not what these forums and their predeccesors were all about originally. Starting way back with the original Canopus forums we all argued, fought a little and discussed inteligently the various issues of editing. We all helped each other to understand,.............understand the intricancies of various editing techniques. I was perhaps, one of the loudest of the bunch, but it was a wonderful time. But now I don't understand half of what is discussed here and I'm sure many others feel the same. These forums are great I suppose for a select few, those who dwell on having the latest and greatest, while perhaps setting aside the value content of video itself. We've come a long way from Canopus, from Rex Edit to Grass Valley and Edius, but the users have and continue to suffer.

"I sympthize with burnandreturn." Hey 3chip, I never wrote one word about being unhappy with this forum. I only asked for other sources of information.
I would think if you wanted something of the nature you wrote about then you should start a thread pertaining to your interests. Simple. Where is the problem? Everything evolves, software, hardware, forums etc. etc.....Edius 8 Workgroup, Intel 3770K, Asus P8Z77-V Motherboard, 32GB DDR3 1600 ram, SSD for C, external Raid box with WE RE4 1TB drives Raid 0 for video assets. Ok, I hear you 3chip. The reason for the faster than ever changes and a lot of Edius users riding that bleeding edge of high technology has a lot to do with Hi-Def. Dealing with HD is kinda like going back to the Rex days and the hurdles we had to deal with back then.
Now if your still working with SD then Edius will perform well on almost any reasonably powered system. There would really only be techniques and methods to discuss their. Are you still working with SD? I do not say that as a bad thing either. I have many clients still working with SD and that has not slowed them down from landing jobs.
So maybe their ought to be a techniques and methods catagory that does not deal with GPU FX performance or RAID types or i7 vs eight core Xeon, etc.George Dame

I would have thought that a search would provide answers to almost all the basic questions. The reasons surely that board questions maybe very advanced is that these are the very ones that are confusing and confounding forum members. When I did my first NLE course the tutor told me, when I complained to him that I thought he could go a bit faster, his answer was that the week before he had a course member who spent a morning on the operation of the mouse! Whilst that may seem a bit extreme it shows that any training area and that includes this forum will always have both ends of the spectrum. It has to be technical because how to edit pictures is the 64 million euro question to which there is no real answer. I have found that there are many forum members who will answer any type of question it is but only to ask. Whoever said there are no stupid questions but only stupid answers was definitely right.E9 PRO ,Intensity Shuttle capture Nvidia 650 TI LG 3D Monitor HDMI Win 10 PRO 64 Bit.Vistitle 2.6, Robuskey. 3Chip - I'm not actually sure what we (GV) can do to help address your concerns. We're always open to feedback.

An importance difference between now and "then" - the days of Edius v1 to 4 - is the availability of video training and comprehensive manuals via the web. These can answer a lot of practical house keeping issues without the need to come here. The search option is, I think, now better.
But I still visit every day and read questions about techniques used, and I appreciate the many and varied answers provided. Occasionally I have dumb questions of my own. Expect more when I start to grapple with the new (to me) world of AVCHD. On AVCHD the only other place which seems to discuss it that I have come across is DVInfo - tho most of the participants there do not use Edius and seem unaware of the potential of FireCoder Blu.DVC laptop: W870CU i7; 17.3" 1920x1080; 2x 1TB 7200rpm SATA notebook drives; Edius 8.5WG; Windows 7.

DVINFO.NET is a more generic website and there is hardly any activity when it comes to discussion on EDIUS. This website is where all the action is.TingSern
