          Just get more RAM :)
          It's cheap!

          Well unless it's DDR3...

Agreed ... I don't even bother to shutdown any service on my workstation - with 24GB RAM - I don't even feel any pain :-).

But you can do the two things! Upgrade the RAM and clean the services... :)

It's necessary to advance carefully, but a lot of services can be disabled...

Yeah a lot of people don't have 10 and 24GB of ram (that would never be used anyway), I posted this for people that run minimum ram on vista sytems to try and help them get a bit better performance, we all know what most people run as it is in their signatures for some reason.

Don't know about you, but I use all my 10GB of RAM. I need to upgrade to 16GB at least for After Effects.

A 4GB DDR2 set is about $50 or so now.

I run 64GB of ram in one system but it is used mainly for 3d work only. not video editing/Rendering.

Video editing doesn't require that much RAM, but compositing and 3d applications can use it all.

I do Cinema4D work as well, and a large amount of RAM comes into play during rendering/previewing.

After Effects CS4 has an option to use one core per execution module - to speed up rendering ... 8 cores x 2GB per core = 16GB gone :-). But, much, much faster than previously.
