  • Playback not in colour

    Hi
I built a new PC around the HDStorm + card and a Q9550 CPU
The new build went well, (thanks to you for the advice) and I was able to playback HD footage (not mine) perfect.
I decided to playback my SD footage via the HDStorm bay, (s/video into a TV) but I'm only getting a black and white picture, why would this be.

    Thanks.
    Tony

Tony, how did you connect to the telly? Does it have a dedicated S-Video socket? If it was by scart you may need to enable S-Video in the menu for that scart socket, you may have the option of RGB, S-Video or Composite Video

Can you try another S-Video cable?

Take a look at your internal cable that connects the card to the bay. Try removing the cable and reinserting it back to the card - just to eliminate a possibility of a loose connection there.

What TV is this, by the way? A flat screen or CRT tube?

Ok, I'll try that. I'm encoding a project just now but when its finished I'll do that, just thinking as I'm writing this, (see above) the HD footage played back fine through the HDStorm card and the bay.

HD material - played through S-Video (Bay) is fine? Meaning in colour? Is that my understanding?

Only SD material is shown in B&W? Can you see what project attributes are you using for SD then?

Sorry, the HD footage played back prefect via HDMI through HDStorm board (back) and also played back perfect via HDMI front bay

Its when I'm playing back SD footage through the front bay with the supplied S/video lead that its B&W

                  Thanks

How about playing back SD materials through the card's HDMI port? Is it in colour or B&W?

Yes, I tried that, just to see if a saw much difference in quality between my SD footage and the HD footage (not mine) and the SD footage played back in colour.

Perhaps I haven't it wired right from the front bay to view the SD footage.
Red to Red blue it Blue, s out and into a TV, well that the way I've it done.

Once this encoding is finished I can experiment more, I'll try the other S lead, theres 2 in the box.
                        Thanks so far.

Looks like a mixup in the wirings going to the Front Bay. If it works for the card - then we eliminate the possibiliity of card faulty, and the project for SD being in B&W.

The cable the connects the card to the bay, is there a right and a wrong way to connect the two?, I just plugged any end of the cable in to the storm card and the other into the bay

If the plugs aren't keyed - then I would assume the cable is omnidirectional. I don't have a HDStorm here - but, if ribbon cable is similar to what I seen for my NX card, either way doesn't matter. Best to consult the manual that the card comes with.
